Default F6 or GT

Hi all, please don't flame the newbie! I've searched high and low for a thread comparing the mk2 F6 and GT. Has it been covered before?
Thanks!

IMO it all comes down to how much do you like your V8's?

The only way you will ever settle this is by driving them or seeing what gives the best $$ deal because performance wise its pretty much line ball unless you get a R Spec.

Id go the F6, only because I think its days are numbered and for me its really the most Aussie performance car around. The GT will live on, get that next time.

But if you have to have the V8 note then there is no option really.

Dollar for dollar I'd go GT

If there is a $10k difference between price I'd go f6

Thanks guys, I'm into the aftermarket scene. Currently in a 210fwkw mazda 3 mps.

I've always wanted an 8 but the F6 is a good bit of kit.

I've driven a F6 and xr6t before but not the GT. It will happen.
Guess what I'm interested is how they would compare Day to day.

Drive both..
5.4 quad cams.. (PRO's)- sounds awesome, idle shake with a lumpy cam.. v tec like moment you pass 2800rpm..

heavy on fuel.. slower than I6 Turbo.. expensive to modify the enine.

I6 Turbo engine (Pro's) Very fast on boost. - cheap HP -Boost/tune injectors /pump. - hello 300RWKW. Bit better on fuel.

Cons. Does not sound like a v8.. - unless on boost could be mistaken for "just another 6 cylinder..

I chose the GT because I've had a turbo and wanted something different. You can't go wrong with either as they are both great. The F6 has a faster feel with a strong hit of mid range torque where as the GT is just a relentless smooth application of torque right to the rev cut. F6 has much better fuel economy but who cars when driving performance cars of this caliber.

Benny.

Didn't drive the GT but drove the GS. Then hopped in the F6 and for me that was that, the SHOVE you get when boost comes on made me an instant convert.

It also came down to the bottom line, money, F6 was better appointed and more fun than the GS and I couldn't afford the GT. Also, the turbo was different, I already owned a V8 so a supercharged one, while a LOT faster was just more of the same.

Which model are we talking about here. FG MkII. Or BA or BF MKII.

If FG MkII i'd go supercharged V8 over F6.

GT

S/C V8, power throughout whole rev range, tougher looking street apeal.
(Although the boost sensation from the turbo is a great feeling and the F6 is an animal of a car)
If it were my choice I would personally go the GT but only really to say I own a blown GT

If this question was asked 3 years ago, I would've said F6 hands down because they were faster than the GT at the time. Now that the GT comes with a S/C V8, I would now go for a GT over an F6. The F6 still ain't bad though.

I prefer the rawness of the F6 power myself...a little less predictable so to speak.

Averaging 12.5/100kms around town is a bonus also.

I have an FG F6 but if if I had the cash I'd go the S/C GT.

As someone else has already said, when we had those old Boss 290's I would definitely have gone the other way for the F6.

Having said that, I've always been a 6 man and have owned the F6 model for a few years now, so the S/C would be something different for me.

Fuel economy for performance in the F6 is amazeballs though. 12.5-12.8/100 all day long.

What sort of economy are GT owners getting?

That's the issue I have. If it was the 5.4 I'd have an easy decision

I love V8's, but pound for pound the F6 is a winner. I'm just lucky that I don't have to ask myself to choose between the two cars.

drive them both, ideally back to back

If you are going to mod slightly the price difference will close up as all you need is a tune with the GT vs mild bolt ons for F6

around 15/100km for GT seems to be average to answer you question. I wouldn't choose based on fuel consumption though as when you look at total cost of ownership the marginal difference will be small

GT all day every day.

The F6 is a brilliant car, but GT has the sound advantage that makes it fun to drive at 1/4 throttle not just when your flat out.

As for fuel. Mine uses 9~10 per 100 in th country and about 13.5 city which is a mix of stop start and peak hour slow freeway. Company supplied Aurion got low 12's in the same city work, so I'm happy with that.

And the whine from the supercharger.

Welcome to the Blue Team.. (soon)
Both great drives, you will need to test drive both cars, only then will you know which one is for you..
Either one will not disappoint! Get test driving.

I do miss my V8, that burble on down shift and the note at all revs... but hearing a car full of P-Platers screaming "HOLY SHI-" as it hit boost on the highway next to them made me not miss it as much

Even though the GT makes 380rwkw tune only it doesn't really equate to earth shattering ET's for the power considering the times capable with 380rwkw in a F6.
10's no worries with 380 in the I6T and it can be done for 4k if you fit cooler and exhaust yourself.

I think the gap is still quite substantial, well for me and what I earn it is....not sure where the op sits here?

Was thinking about a second hand GS ute this year but after reading the required extra power/hardware to get the times I would want to run it's not looking viable....not unless I have luck finding a modded car already to aid in not over capatalising.I have had a high torque powered L67 P/D air2air cooler VX(over 600rwnm derived torque below 100kmh/r in top gear) and the ease to power skid at the flick of a switch is truly missed in the BA.

For some the badge/extra cylinders alone justifies any trade offs and totally understandable,I do truly wish I was in the situation to do so but at the moment going fast for me is paramount and the I6 seems to suit my budget better at the moment.

What times can one expect from cooler,cat-back,injectors,pump and tune from a GS/GT?
No mercy.....slicks,leaned on tune etc and a clean run

you mentioned your into the modding scene...then the GT 335 really is the hands down winner.....such massive power gains for so little doe. Plenty of these facts in GT335 performance threads around here.

For me....I just recently went with a G6et...as the turbo shove is so damn addictive, aswell as myself not planning a full blown modd setup(yet)
The 'silk' euro looks appeals to me aswell...but if you want muscle in ya face...the GTs the car for you
good luck

T4ME makes a good point, if your going to mod and want to run quick times the F6 might be the better option. Using the 5-10k you save on mods it would easily out perform a stock GT 335. Even stock dont the F6's run around the same quarter mile times as the GT?

I was just figuring for an $800 dyno tune you can run high 11's in a GT

For the same timeslip you need to do a bit more to an F6 don't you?

And what are the cars worth?..............say $57 for the F6 and say $62k for a GT

I would think stock the F6 is better bang for ones buck.

For an 11 sec car they are probably lineball

For a 10 second car F6 again.

Of course there is more to life than 400m I know.............

S/C V8 for me, especially current models. They are likely to be sort after more in the future.

1. The GT badge.
2. Falcon will likely have a new platform (maybe lose the name).
3. It's a V8

Not having driven a s/c V8 yet, I would imagine you don't need to drive it 7/10 or above to put a smile on your face. I've yet to find a turbo car that dose that (having owned a few).

Everyone has turned this into a 1/4 mile thread. When someone is going to blow $60k on a FPV are they thinking to themselves "which one will be half a second faster when I run it at the drags 2-3 times out of the 5 years I own it?".

These things are bought to drive around daily or have as a nice head turning weekend car. How many times is a 11sec car going to be better than having a 11.5sec car when your driving it on the roads?

He's right, I've had both. FG F6 long run average 13.3 L/100 km's SC GT-P 15.2L/100 km's doing exactly the same job driven in exactly the same way.
I love my SC GT-P but the F6 is also a real weapon. Have a really good drive in both, one will "talk to you" more than the other, no wrong answers and depends on the deal. There's some killer deals on low mileage F6's around there parts at the minute. If you put a value on value for money or relative fuel economy the F6 is a no brainer, OTOH if you like the sound of a V8 or a supercharger and like heaps of smothe linear power then the GT is your best bet. Borrow to the max and buy both I would but my wife just doesn't understand.
