A discussion we had at work a while ago made me decide to make a thread on this subject...
What cars and motoring related stuff do you like...but not generally let people know you like or desire? I'll start it off: * i really, really like the Toyota V6 engine in the Aurion. it's an awesome engine...smooth, quiet, full alloy construction, economical, 200kw and plenty of shove. The only drawback is that it's only fitted in a front drive configuration in the Aurion. That's not because FWD is the work of the devil, it's because it severely limits or excludes the possibilities to fit it to other old cars. * The 120Y...coupe. I really like them. I saw one a while back with fat steels, lowered a bit, fitted with a two liter Bluebird SOHC engine and five speed manual that had a turbo strapped on it and an intercooler slung low in the front. It wasn't painted properly, only patchily primered, but it had massive potential. * Rotaries...I love them...despite the drawbacks and mechanical limitations, i think they're an amazing motor. I could think of no better eye-opener at a car show than a little old light weight Escort coupe fitted with a worked to buggery 13b in it...ah what the hell...hang the expense and stick in a three rotor 20B... So come on...the confessional doors are shut...it's between you, me, and the hundreds of other people on this forum... |

Not exactly what I was after...it's a "ford" forum (sometimes it seems like a "Falcon" forum though)...it's assumed everyone here loves Fords.
What other loves are hidden in the depths of people souls, for other makes of car or parts of other cars that they don't generally talk about? |

I love my falcons but I have also owned about 4 Mitsubishi Cordia Turbo's. Absolutely love everything about them apart from fwd part. Had one tell last September and sold it, it was immaculate and had so many peoples from gumtree that wanted to swap so many different cars for it. I want to buy another as my daily driver but so hard to find one in good condition...

ok, Humber Supersnipe.
Always thought they were a classy looking vehicle, and had nice trim for their era. Would love to have a restored one of those. And I love big stonking diesels, no turbos, just massess of torque available from idle. And Monaros. If I was gonna bat for the other team, that would be the car that did it

- I like luxury cars, not fast cars. I have no desire to own anything by Ferrari, Lamborghini, Porsche, Bugatti ... etc, etc, but I dream of owning a Mercedes-Benz S-Class, Rolls-Royce Ghost, and Bentley Continental GT. Though I can admire a gorgeous 458 Italia or Aventador, I wouldn't dream of owning one.
- In somewhat of a contradiction to the above, I'd love to have a C63 AMG Black Coupe for track days. I absolutely adore the noise that the AMG V8 makes, and as far as I'm concerned, it's the best sounding engine (and arguably the best engine) in the world.

Apart from a short stint (2 months) in an XT GT back in the 70's and a few years in an 84 VK Ex Highway Patrol when newly married, I don't like V8's.
I can appreciate the beauty and styling etc but I always think drivers cheat by having a V8 for power. I spent my first ten years driving 4 cylinders, learning car craft, handling, braking suspension etc. The years spent perfecting this then transfers into my XR6s and the BMW 635. Though both are straight sixes the modifications on them allow me to get close to their respective maximum performances and really enjoy sticking it up some of the turbo / V8 folks. Don't get me wrong, I realise there are many V8s out there with drivers that would run rings around me but on average I can hold my own in a well sorted six. Cheers Vincenzo

I want the performance of a R35 GTR but don't want the 'look at me, I drive a GTR, wanna race?' presence it gives out. So I want to install the full driveline into a B-series Falcon with no bodykit. Would be willing to slice up a perfectly good GTR for the the privilege , and sell off the leftovers to some ricer who wants the looks of the GTR but the economy/performance of some rice burner.

I would love a 2010 BMW M5. If I had the opportunity to buy one, it would take superhuman strength (or my wife) to stop me. But I think many here would love one as well.
I would drive/own a Commodore before I was shoe horned into anything smaller than a mid-large car as I am much taller and broader than the average bloke. Out of all the Supercars/Hypercars in the world, I would have to have the new Pagani above all others (if money wasn't an issue). I actually enjoyed the 2 years and 3 VX S Commodores I had as company cars, just don't tell my Holden friends.

I can't think of anything that I'm ashamed to tell people about or am a closet fan of, I had a couple of HQ's when I was younger and if I found a clean drivable Kingswood I'd snap it up in a heartbeat. I don't want a 308, I don't want a monaro, just an original 253 4sp 4dr car and I'll be a happy camper. The only other car I would actually buy if I had the money to buy and run would be a Jag XFS.......... otherwise I'll stick to a Fairlane thanks, ya can't beat them for the money.

I can't explain why but I think the HQ in sedan form was one of if not the best looking car ever built in Australia. Even stranger that the VN also is starting to show the same charm. Perhaps its something to do the familiarity of the really big sellers followed by missing them once they are gone.

Okay,
I hate the AMG C63. It's a gauche toy of the Nouveau Riche, mostly bought on 110% finance, driven by greasy or bald, fat gold chain wearing tribal tattoo wearing douches who just need to be seen, and act like bosses. Enjoy the repayments boys, the tandoori tanned wife's gonna have to lay off the solly, and stop buying the kids Man Utd. Jerseys I Hate the sound of the engine, if I buy a German V8, the last thing I want is for it to sound like an old Kingswood V8. Other cars that fall into this category for me are BMW 3 series coupes. 360 Modena Ferraris, F348tb Feraris (seen many yellow ones with chromies? Yeah), e46 m3's, (:( ) basically any old euro car that was once expensive which has now depreciated into the league of rif Raf... I know, I'm a filthy, nasty, hideous snob. These people have ruined these cars for me, true story. Not the cars fault, they're just bought by idiots who have no appreciation for the history or the engineering, they just buy because they can finally afford the finance repayments, and the badge suits the cafe gym junkie greasy image that they think will make people look at them. Ugh EDIT: In other news, I like Renaults and RenaultSport. Doesn't exactly make me popular with some Ford Forumers, but then again, also liking Fords doesn't exactly make popular with anyone.. Haha |

I really love the enitre look of the VE Commodore Sportwagons. As a complete car, they're honestly perfectly what I'm after and are sexy as hell.
However being a Falcon man through and through, I just can't be caught driving/admiring the enemy car. |

So it's not just me...I've loved the amazing little Mighty Boy since they were brand new. I saw one recently with an engine/box unit out of an old Swift GTi stuffed into it. Awesome...
I noticed that myself about VN/VP's...if you happen to see a clean one (and one i saw a while ago in nice metallic green, lowered, with simple silver painted 'Interceptor" steel 16" wheels, no body kit, and was very clean and tidy, but basic), it actually had me "thinking without thinking" a sudden realization that "Now that's a nice car", and probably only cost the owner a couple of grand at most. I like the Mitsubishi 380...I drove quite a few over decent distances at work as rental cars, and wondered why they failed... A Ford-related one. I actually really like a nicely modded clean AU...at least now i do. Whereas when they were new, they had me dry heaving and feeling queasy every time I saw one of the horrifying abomininable affronts to god and man... |
