http://au.news.yahoo.com/thewest/ele...ustry-support/ wonder if this will come thro (true) after September and how soon and what itll mean to/do with ford [QUOTE= ] The Federal Government will today make a multi-million-dollar commitment aimed at securing the future of the car industry beyond 2020. Convincing voters it can save the car industry is crucial if Labor wants to protect several seats in the car-making states of South Australia and Victoria. Industry Minister Kim Carr says an extra $500 million will be available from 2016-2020, with $300 million a year promised on an ongoing basis from 2020. Senator Carr says the funding will be used to attract new investment for Australia's vehicle component industry as well as Holden, Toyota and Ford. [QUOTE]

Ford Manufacturing in Australia is over.
In the manufacturing game the numbers being spoken are a drop in the ocean. |

Ford is on the record as saying that no golden package will reverse their decision.
What has happened is that Ford has diverted any potential funding for a next product cycle Falcon/Territory into funding of loaclised global vehicles and instead of spending more than a billion dollars on two vehicles, Ford gets to spread that money over eleven global vehicles for Australia. I can see that diverse package increasing sales far more than Ford investing a fortune on another Falcon/Territory. My heart would love to disagree with that but the truth is that the business case just doesn't add up anymore. |

The only time you can believe a "promise" before an election...and even after an election...is when it's actually passed the senate, is fully funded, and has been implemented fully.
Until then, take it with a grain of salt...a large one... |

my thoughts (even tho it may upset some) wasn't along the lines of a falcon/territory revival and im one that is interested to see whats coming from global ford (and I know ill get burned from this statement from others)
but makes me wonder if they may get interested in future development of vehicles , parts and maybe builds of their global market with dropping dollar , packaged with other types of investments

if the govt is that committed to local manufacturing, proposing they spend our tax money like that, why dont they propose to reinstate the tariffs on imported vehicles instead?

I just noticed that on the news..."between 2016 to 2020", and then "$300 million a year until 2025".
Oh come on...that's dependant on them getting voted in not just this time, but the next election as well, and every election until 2025! Now that's forward planning...planning desperately on how to get re-elected that is... Anyone who thinks the manufacturers will see one cent of this is really gullible... |

Keep party politics out of the thread or it will get closed quicker than a Ford factory.

Not sure if that will win him any votes, as upto 80% of people dont think the Aussie Auto industry should get any greater amount of money than they are already getting.

No change, Falcon will be passing into history by 2016 marking the end of an era. The big guns came out this week and announced it's final.
Better off sitting outside watching for UFOs. Bill.

that's my concern.
I would not be supporting this "promise." There are other areas that need the funds more and other departments that could use the resources.

Whats the point of pumping tax payers money into an industry that the Gov gutted with the FBT changes. Tax $$ wont make people buy new cars.
Its like Kevin Rudd setting your house on fire then racing out to the garden hose to put it out infront of all the cameras... |
