G'day Gents,
I understand that this has probably been thrashed to death, however after 2 days for searching this forum I couldn't find the exact answers. I'm looking at doing a turbo kit on an AU XLS Ute, so non VCT motor. and I have a few questions. 1. Turbo Oil feed, where do you get the oil from ? 2. Turbo Oil drain, what have some people done here ? Weld a Dash fitting, or can you get a thread in the cast Alloy ? 3. Turbo Water feed / return ? where do these come from 3. AU Map sensor ? Will they handle boost ? Can't get a straight answer on this one. Wire in a BA/BF sensor ? 4. AU Fuel Pressure reg - Is this detatchable from the Fuel rail ? As to run a aftermarket rising rate one. or is an Aftermarket fuel rail required ? 5. Stock Valve Springs any good at all ? will they handle any boost ? 6. When does the Stock Clutch Start slipping ? Just trying to get a grip on what would be my best course of action. For instance, if it needs a clutch and valve springs right away then ill pull the donk out and do oil drain, clutch, head / cam / springs all at once. No budget as such, but don't want to blow cash but I only use good quality parts - no Junk. Cheers for the help ! Jay

I didn't do the setup on my one it's a snort kit but I can help a little
1. The oil feed comes from a tee on the intake side 2. Return is plumed directly into the sump 3. Water feed is from the 10mm air bleed lines. The radiator header tank had to be changed as the plastic one melted from the heat. 4. Mine is running an adapt tonic computer 5. I'm blowing in 11.5 pound no valve spring issues 6. Running an auto. I'm new I don't know how to add pic. |

The real question that you've got to ask yourself is how much power you plan on making, and what you plan to do with said power. Given that the DOHC conversion has become a lot more common, it becomes more difficult to recommend turboing what's in there, but that said it looks like it's a lot of fun
To answer your questions: 1. My understanding is that a lot of people have a T fitting where the Oil Pressure Switch/Sensor is (but don't quote me on this one) 2. Most people weld a -10 fitting for the return line. 3. Not sure 3. AU MAP sensor does not handle boost (I think more correctly AU2-3 does not, AU1 does to some extent, again don't quote me), but most use BA MAP sensor to allow boost 4. Not sure 5. Valve Springs are issues even in the DOHC under more pressure, so it depends on how much boost and power you are looking to run as well. 6. Not sure about clutch, but T5 3rd gear is notorious for going bang with sufficient torque. This is my just my understanding from all the research I've undertaken to turbo my AU, but I still haven't got around to it. The two people that have done it and documented quite thoroughly are Dansedgli (I'm not sure if his thread is here as well, but it is elsewhere), and TURBOTAXI (who even had his running LPG). My plan will be to get a wrecked BA XR6T and swap the engine and gearbox together. There are a few people that have done this, sly and another member from another forum. Given that you're keen on doing it 'properly', I reckon assess your goals and then work from there. Hope this helps |

i did water return into the bottom radiator hose, made a small section of stainless tube same diameter as the rad hose inside diameter (ss exhaust pipe) and migged a piece of half inch ss tube, cut the original rad hose and insert with 2 clamps. water is now sucked through to the pump. oil feed gets teeed off the oil pressure switch fitting. I ran a seperate pressure reg on a earlier fuel rail, not sure on the AU one as i used an ed log manifold on the old car, or get a bf fuel rail and change the reg to a turbo unit (bf fuel rail is ss).
