death at Ford broadmeadows

My brother had a training course at ford today and some poor soul was crushed to death there today. really terrible to lose your life at work.

Awful for everyone involved, the poor worker, his workmates and his family and friends.

Heavy machinery is so unforgiving.

Condolences to all associated with this tragedy-so sad that in this modern era with all the ohs systems these things still occur.

The death wasn't inside the plant.

It was on the news just didn't say it was Ford.

If it wasnt inside the plant where was it?
Was it a ford employee who bought it?
Did it just happen near Ford and not connected with Ford in any other way?
Its sounding a bit like A Current Affair story so far.

I have worked on numerous dangerous jobs as a younger younger person and the thought of injury or death was never present

I have worked on 20 and 30 story building projects explosives few mines and I was so lucky to walk away with no injury I was one of the lucky ones

It is sad and I feel for the family all the person did was go to work

it is a sobering thought that we must take care in the work place

you only have to have a brain lapse for minute or even seconds and your life can be over , you have to try and avoid putting yourself in harms way, and its hard to be on the ball for every minute of your life.

i think back to some very close calls over my working life,and ive come to the conclusion im very lucky to be here........... i think back to some of the dumb things i did outside of work in all manner of things from doing general stuff working on cars and trucks , rooting around in cars as a young bloke, omg i should be dead ten times over,
sometimes life and getting to enjoy a normal life span is also a matter of luck.
sympathy to deceased blokes family , and and hopefully all of us and our family's will have plenty of that luck stuff....... life is too short.

i think because the deceased hadn't been identified, so no relatives notified.

Yes- second this- my original post assumed the victim was male- my bias and mistake. In all the industrial cases I have been involved in where a workman has been crushed by heavy machinery/heavy equipment, every case has been a male, and usually tired, under the pump ie having worked long hours and in a rush to meet a deadline, and usually in hot conditions.

So to all those workpeople working in and around heavy machinery when tired, hot and working to a deadline, take a moment to take in cold fluids and try to adhere to your safety ohs systems, but over that-if you have a niggle in the gut you should not be doing something on the fly- do not do it-your evolutionary instinct is giving you alarm warning by that niggling feeling.

MIk I agree with you I am 60 and looking back some of the really silly things I did working in 30 story building projects and working with explosives

playing with det caps and one time fire works night we set of a half a k of det cord silly things to do but I was young and silly so was my boss

I some times think your life is already set out and there is little you can do to stop the end.

The thing is today even with all of the health and safety protocols accidents do happen

Living in Broken Hill we get a lot of serious mining accidents but just working local woolies shop you can get injured

Shocking news. Happened in the grounds of plant 1.

Knowing some of the safety team and how serious Ford take safety, I am absolutely taken back on how this could happen. I have never dealt with a company that take safety as serious as Ford.

My heart goes out to the individuals, families and friends of all involved.

Happened a number of times on Sydney streets. I recall a ballerina crushed under the wheels of a garbage truck in Crows Nest.
These events usually happen when the trucks are turning or reversing

She was in a spot she shouldn't have been in, the truck driver as been cleared of all charges and this is coming from a person closely involved.

Also can anyone confirm if this is the first death at Broadmeadows?

I doubt it. Safety was pretty lax decades ago. First in a very long time though.
