That's just crazy. Also looks like it has some damage on one of the rear quarters?

No such thing as a HO glove box lid, its only a sticker you could put it on anything.

Looks like an original unrestored survivor and you know what they say, it's only original once.

You need to do a bit more homework on genuine HOs if you believe this.

Were those "351 - High Performance" badges from factory on those centre consoles? Did they appear anywhere on any other cars? I've got one of those badges and I always wondered where they were originally from.

The wheels are not globes, wrong arial, a second arial, wrong petrol cap, some sort of bracket on the dash next to the HOHOHO glove box, couple of the panels look different shade of colour, frond doors look like they have cancer, big fuel tank looks non factory. Is the engine the original? ... Good luck to the new owner as it needs thousands spent on it to bring it up to a value of approx $100,000.

The 351 badge on the console is correct for a GT.

What a nugget......yeah the market is crazy again and been so for 12 or 18 months.

Nor going to **** can this car but it is not a $176K car, only problem for anyone entering the XY GT market it is the new bench mark and the next POS to hit the market will be north of $180K

What did the Nationals wining Quicksilver car in Melbourne sell for? Surely not much more than this?

Yep the market is absolutely nuts at the moment. I've been watching the market extremely closely (check in to everything once an hour all day) at the moment as I'm looking for something in particular. It's a **** time for buyers.

People aren't hesitating to pay $50k+ for VK Group A replica's when parts and clean shells are still cheap? I sold my original Group A for $78k less than 5 years ago. Original yellow VL BT1's you can't even get for less than $40k in todays market, RX3's $60k+ and it looks like RPO83's will hit house prices soon.

Is there a buyers premium around 20% on top of that too when buying at auction?

Resession within 18 months. When the stupid prices start there is only one ending, happened in the late 80s, early 2000s, late 2000's and about to happen again.

Why is everyone (well most) so negative about this purchase?

I'm sure the owner is happy?

Good chance that the owner may even tidy it up a bit...

I've never understood why some people pay so much money for old pieces of crap but each to their own. I'm sure they are happy though.

Take this for someone who owns one of these classics, a vehicle in this condition with so many visual discrepancies isn't worth $176K, it is that simple.

The vehicle will be on-sold as part of some dodgy deal which has already been arranged.

agreed but for 176k he could of approached any number of xygt owners with cars many times better than THAT CAR and probably got a response of " if you are serious with your offer on my car lets go to the bank now". at the end of the day its a 1970 yellow ochre xygt requiring a lot of money and genuine parts to be thrown at it, to make MOST people consider that sum of money to buy the car. I think we refer to it as over capitalising! look he/she may be the original owner of the car, or a relative, have the log books to it or its a sentimental thing. for us on the outside it just looks like way too much coin for what the pictures showed. each to their own!

ps a sunroof doesn't add 80k to the purchase price of a gt falcon

Has the drivers seat been swapped over to the passenger side? The passenger seat is well worn and is in need of a new cover.

Michael - we both know a sunroof manual XY GT is not a $96k car!

Having said that, Shannons auctions have a track record of people over paying for cars

Please find me genuine original piece of woodgrain with no holes in it.

All other models ike fairmont and GTs have holes in the woodgrain for a badge, only GTHO will have no holes.

Therefore GTHO woodgrain does exist.

Maybe that is where the premium on this vehicle is??

This is most likely the answer. Regardless, because some cash-up nong pays over the odds it pushes the bar higher.

That didn't take long...

I guess we will see a lot of XY GTs hitting the market now, I have not seen too many lately, but now given the price surge and current bench marks for sales, I expect a few to start hitting the market.

PS. The car advertised does not seem to be a POS...looks real nice TBH.

to put the whole thing in perspective, the vfire xygt that featured in survivor car #1 and blew many people away at the last nationals, didn't cost the current owner this much. ok it was maybe 3 to 4 yrs ago? however economically the doom and gloom is worse now then it was then....does that mean fp's car is now worth 10 times the yellow ochre because it is 100 times better than the yellow ochre car can be? I think with the sudden presentation of a number of high quality cars on the market which have since sold, its like a frenzy has started all over again...time will tell
