Default Left Outer Half Shaft - Grease?

I just installed what I thought was a good set of used half shafts in a BA XR8. But after the install, I seem to have movement in an odd spot, and there's CV grease spitting out everywhere. Outer left half shaft.

Is this repairable? I suspect not, and that I have been sold a dud. The right side is fine. They were supposedly off a BF XR8 with 18,000km on it.

There's an IMG link right above this line that is just not appearing.

Chairman's Award: Chairman's Award - Issue reason: Your outstanding contributions to this community have not gone unnoticed. IN my view you are a worthy recipient of the (rarely used) Chairman's Award.
Default Re: Left Outer Half Shaft - Grease?

I've seen swaged-on caps like that on some Euro drive shafts, if they've not been correctly crimped on they jiggle and don't seal. assuming your CV feels OK and it's just the overcap motion you're worried about. Factory install used a three-curved-jaw chuck thing that pressed it into a slight depression all in one go.

Have had some joy with meticulous surface cleaning and then an oil-resistant gasket silicone pumped into the gap, but that's not a fix you'd sell to a customer as professional.
