Ok so i went and looked at the EF today.... Thoughts?

Ok I had a look at the car today.

The front end creaks over speed humps pretty loudly. Seems ok driving normally.

There are stone chips on the bonnet and a few other scrapes and scratches around the car. Interiour looks good but the ouside is a bit crappy. I could probably fix the chips and a few of the scratches.

I noticed the oil pressure gauge was reading max while driving. I asked the guy about it and he said it has been like that the whole time he has had it. He thinks it is a faulty gauge. Could there be a serious problem there?

Car seems to drive well.

What do you guys recon it is worth?
Details:
95 ef Wagon, dual fuel, alloys, rwc, few months rego, head has been done, decent tyres, decent brakes.

paint issues are generally a bit pricey to fix...
but saying that, it is a 10 year old car
sounds to me like the oil pressure sender needs replacing, don't think these cost too much.

btw: did u run the car on both fuels.
depends if the petrol system has been neglected or not.
my car was a pig on petrol but felt great on LPG.. simply due to not being run on petrol much at all it stuffed the injectors up.
deffinately not a bad price for an EF.

I kinda found the answer to my own question on the oil pressure thing. From doing a search it seems to be very common. Either faulty sensor, bad connection or Shorted connection. Doesnt look like it will be a problem

i am actually trying my hand at painting my 260z at the moment. If all goes well i can spray the bonnet ect on this.

The other thing is the tank will need testing in 2 years. Is this hard/expensive?

I would be interested to see what people think it is worth. Most i see in the paper are asking about 6 for them. (paintwork is probably better tho)

It was gettting late when i looked at it today. I only drove it on gas. (he normally starts it on pet and switches to gas a few min later) so should be ok.

I am going to look at it again thursday and make my decision.

sounds like a good buy for sure, i am looking at a ef fairmont wagon at the moment its $8,500, 171,000km, tickford suspension, genuine tickford 16's, extractors, 2.5" system, the body is a bit negleted (like the one your looking at). and it also has the same problem with the oil pres guage. but for that price if your happy with it, go for it.....

Has to be taken to a Auto LPG place to be tested and restamped. being that it was installed in 1997 id say it just needs to be stamped, etc and that costs around $175

my car was the complete opposite to that...
ran perfectly on petrol, once you flicked it to gas it started jumping around
$1000 or so later got that fixed:( turned out some sensor dropped and they changed the tank & also changed that thing on the engine

so watch out and make sure the gas system works... they can be expensive things to fix:(

with paint make sure there are no carpark dents in the doors mine has about 50 per door, dont know how i missed them at the dealer and the roof has got lots of dents from roofracks all over the place..
so make sure that it is only cosmetic problems cause these dents are really hard to get straight, hence why i havnt bothered trying to fix it

no.

i think the dash has been changed by the people b4 these.

probably has a pressure switch on the engine not a sensor. that would explain the high reading

how can i tell if it has been changed? does it matter? as long as it is not an x taxi!!!

well if its got an oil pressure guage, then i'd imagine it would have been changed.
they were only available on fairmont and XR wagons.

the oil pressure switch would make it max out, by fitting a oil pressure sender it'll fix that.

how many kms has the car done?? this could be what ppl do to trick people into thinking that it has been really well looked after and or has had a complete rebuild, by having a high oil pressure readout, i bought a ea spac that used to be on gas,, but was taken off, i took it to my mate whos a mechanic,, he told me to get rid of the car because there was bugger all compresion in half the cylinders,, all because of the gas had chewed away the exhaust valves,, would this occur in an ef?? i dont kno,, but i kno one thing for sure i will never buy a second hand ford falcon thats on gas again. they are good on economy.. agreed but in my case,, gas ruined my experience of owning a first car,, as it was so short lived. had done only 191,000 buy the way.

Sounds a little dodgy... I'd have a look at a few other ones, see what you think. It's not like it's especially cheap or sounding particularly special. There's always another one!

Or, you can use those facts to get the price down

check the vehicle id plate and see if it says OPT20 if it does that means it was an x-coppa like mine and they had those clusters in them standard

Looks better than what was said in this thread, hope you get those minor probs sorted. I would probably switch the oil switch to a sensor and if need be check that the cluster isnt faulty (I doubt it would be).
