Default Show us your sound system

Hey all,

I know Dansedgli has opened the "Show us your head unit" thread but I was hoping to take it a little further.

Once I pay my AUII XR6 off I'm gonna do the system, but don't know yet what i should go for...i dont want a dush dush but something that gives good sound quality throughout and has some power on it when i wanna turn it up...incidently it didnt come with premium sound so thats why i wanna upgrade

So I was thinking CD/Mp3 head unit or anything with iPod input (or should I go the iTrip?)

Then get new 5x7's in the front, and can someone tell me what size the rear speakers are? New set of those to match the front.

Thirdly I was thinking a smallish sub to give the sound some feeeel...but what size, and should I install it in the boot cover or what?

If anyone has any pics of how they've done their AU system I'd love to check it out.

Cheers :evilsasmo

Well I'll post pics of mine in a sec but im not sure it's exactly what you are after....

What you are after is something like an Alpine head unit that you can get an ipod module for, they sow song titles on head unit and can operate the ipod threw the controls on head unit as well...

Au's have 5X7's front and rear from factory, though you can fit 6X8's with a small spacer or even 6" if ya make a spacer for them as well.

If ya not after to much bass then you could probably look at putting an 8" subb in ya parcel shelf, they sound aright if ya get the rite sub!

Explode, with your tweeter positioning on the door trim, did you put the door trim screw in behind the tweeter back into position? I placed my tweeters in the same location as you but have made the tweeters easily removable to access the screw that was in the place of the tweeter.

xr6007, speakers where not the hard bit, that was just run a few wires and bolt em in, its the boot where all the time is spent.

ddarby, i left the bolt out, but while saying that there was never one in there. I actually had povo pack skins origonaly and changed em to the ones i have now so i actually had to thread somr bolts just to get one in each door as it was.

I just bought a 7 inch touchscreen today. Im going to mould it into the dash and have a car computer setup. That will output into my old headunit which will feed the amps once they are in.

This way I can have touchscreen multimedia and play with my haltech on the run.

I'm hoping to get some 6x9" put in the ute between the rear of the cab and the door on the sidewall section.

Can anyone tell me which company makes an adaptor so I can keep the steering wheel controls on an aftermarket HU?

Stinger make an Adapter for Pioneer head units. Costs ~$160.

And Alpine have their own Adapter for their Alpine head units.

Very nice system dude. I like the tweeter in the door especially. Bout how much did that setup cost you all up if you dont mind me askin? I don't have the cash to go all out on it, and yea maybe I dont wanna be bitten too hard by that bug there either.

8" sub sounds reasonable, and i also want it looking somewhat stealthy. the car isnt garaged either so thats why really.

what are the best brand of speakers/subs? and is it best to keep all the brands consistent throughout (ie HU to speakers to sub) or to people usually just get the best of each?

Lightning Audio do make a Steering Wheel Control:
http://www.lightningaudio.com/2004/p...asp?prodID=576

It works with:
Alpine, Clarion, Denon, Exlipse, JVC, Nakamichi, Kenwood, Panasonic, Pioneer, Rockford Fosgate and Sony head-units.

But not:
Sony CDXM770, CDXM620, CDXM670, CDXCA850X, CDXCA860X

The Controller only works with aftermarket head units that are equipped with an original infrared remote.

As the product is American, I'm not 100% sure if they'll work on Australian Cars.

Dude, I really have not kept count on what it is all worth (mainly because it would scare me) but at a guess probably around the 5k mark...

I've herd an 8" sub in the shelf, sounds alright, if you don't want big bass and just want a bit more then what 5X7's then it's probably all ya after!

It dose not really matter about keeping brand consistency throughout an install, I have but its not something ya have to do.

In fact sooner or later I will be changing my headunit to one of another brand as im not that happy with the RF one I have.

Good brands, well it depends who you ask.
I would normally say Rockford Fosgate, Eclipse, Alpine!

But have a listen to things before you buy them, don't just buy because its a good price, and keep in mind a sound board is not always the best way to hear and see product, so have a look and listen to a few cars that have different products in them...

Alright, thanks for the down-low.

When it comes to amps, is it possible to get one that runs 4 speakers as well as the sub? Or is that just a matter of the wattage limit?

A few company's make 5 chan amps to do what you want to do, but personaly i'd just get a 4 chan for ya speakers and a mono block or 2 chan for ya sub or subs depending on what you do.

Or you could always just amp ya fronts and run the rears off ya head unit, and use a 4 chan for ya fronts and sub.... so many options...

Here's the newest addition to my stereo system. It's a 6.2" 4:3 Visor TFT screen. It started life as a 6.2" roof mounted screen and the standard sun visor (passenger side), but I soon created one usfeul thing out of 2 useless objects. Doesn't look the best (many lessons learnt), but it works and is nearly invisible from outside the car (unless you know what to look for), so that's the main thing.

The finished product:

Under construction:

How it started life:

Probably not - depends on the model. Take it back and swap it for a Pioneer or JVC. Sony stuff is more about bright lights than quality sound.

No idea. Found the ADRs for AUSTRALIAN DESIGN RULE 42/04
GENERAL SAFETY REQUIREMENTS, and they say:

18 TELEVISION AND VISUAL DISPLAY UNITS
18.1 General
All television receivers or visual display units and their
associated equipment must be securely mounted in a
position which:
18.1.1 does not obscure the driver’s vision;
18.1.2 does not impede driver or passenger movement in
the vehicle; and
18.1.3 is unlikely to increase the risk of occupant injury.
18.2 Restriction on Visibility of Screen
Unless a driver’s aid, all television receivers or visual
display units must be installed so that no part of the image
on the screen is visible to the driver from the normal
driving position.

So, yes they would be illegal if in the normal driving position, the driver can see the screen. I cannot see the screen in my normal driving position as I am usually too busy looking out of the windscreen to see anything on the passenger side visor.
