Default Who is insured with Shannons. Opinions

Well i rang my insurer today to query lowering the car. Sorry, but 2 mod policy. So my kit and wheels count as mods. Anyway, no budging on the lowering.

So I rang Shannons and was quoted $150 a year more than what i'm paying now. But I get agreed value and as many mods as I want. Until I start on mechanical mods, it will basically stay as they quoted me. Which is ok.

So i was wondering if anyone has had any bad experiences with Shannons. I like the idea of no limit on mods. But wondering how we go when we start looking at major mods and how quickly will the premium increase and by how much. But Shannons seem pretty good. Quite flexible.

Anyway, they are sending me some paperwork to read over.

I full no claim bonus.

Just after your opinion of Shannons, if you have or have had been insured by them.

We had the Mustang and currently have the EL insured with Shannon's and there's never been a drama. We've only once claimed (at fault) and there were no issues with repairs. It was all done quickly and repairs were A1 without any drama's or mucking around when we claimed. They are expensive though - I have RACV for the AU (full comp and same agreed value as the EL) but I pay ALOT less with RACV.

Anyway, we've never had any drama's with Shannon's so I certainly recommend them

I have heard very good things about Shannons, my only gripe is they dont touch under 25's otherwise I would be with them in a shot.

I've got the Mustang insured with them. They said as long as it's street legal I can go as crazy as I want with mods (they didn't say anything about increasing the premium) however they did make me fit an imobiliser.

Same here. I forgot to mention that they made us install an immobiliser aswell and it had to be seen and approved by them. Only took them a minute or so for them to check and approve it. No big deal.

Also there was no increase in premium after we put in the at fault claim, which we thought was pretty good because we had expected it to go up.

I have my GT-P insured with Shannons, no problems with mods etc. The XR8 is with RACV and has all the mod's covered. Shannons were about $100 bucks dearer than GIO, but the excess is better, $600 compared to $950. GIO’s breakdown is $400 standard excess, $450 High performance car excess and $100 bucks extra if it is lowered, so I told them to jam it.

Cheers, Danny

you told your insurance company about the bodykit?!

mate, worst case scenario they replace it all with what it was covered for, which was genuine bars (all of which would add up to be much more than what your aftermarket kit costs), you can usually work out a deal with the repairer where they invoice the insurer for the genuine kit but then organise the cheaper aftermarket kit for you and give you the monetary difference

thats what happened with my bonnet, wasnt on my policy so they would only replace it with a genuine bonnet, repairer invoiced the insurer for the genuine bonnet - meanwhile i provided them with the fibreglass bonnet - and then they took the total of the genuine bonnet off my excess, meaning i saved money

if that makes sense

We have had vehicles covered by Shannons for some years now and never had any problems. Started with the Hj Monaro fully converted to gas, and have progressed from there.

Have never had a problem either over the phone or with paperwork. They are prompt and very easy to deal with. I highly recommend them.

Shannons are great.

I have the mustang with them. They didnt ask me for any security devices and when they looked at the car for agreed value it had a whole in the bonnet, 8 weber air cleaners hanging out and it was two different colours. :evilsasmo

I also have my rocky and my v6 telstar with them.

i have the ZC with them, it is insanly cheap! $200 a year insured for $10k. however is is probably the best case scenerio for the insurance company ever...

-standard car
-historic (concessional) registration, only allowed 90 days on the road
-retired 56 year old with no accidents or fines in last 10 years
-car is kept in locked shed with someone home all the time

the only "bad" aspect is i am on the insurance as a driver.. 19yo with no accidents or fines.

The ESP is insured with them. Only gripe is their premiums seem to increase quite marginally every year. Mine came in at $40 more this year withy no changes to the car. Other than that they are good to deal with....no probs.

My XR8 went up $80 bucks this year with RACV. No changes to the car or anything else, they just said that they have had a few claims with them and it’s as easy as that. I ended up having to pay it as every one else I rang were a lot dearer than RACV, even with the increase.

Cheers, Danny

I have my XB Coupe through Shannons and have had no problems

I'm 23, pay $63 a month, and it has an agreed upon value of $11,000.
Not limited to any kms as its my daily driver.

The only thing they questioned me on was to many fines in a 5 year period, but i'm just sitting on the limit atm.

I'm 24 and can get insurance with Shannons, but only cos it's a classic car and I've done an advanced driving course.

But you pay for it obviously, so I'm waiting til I'm 25.

I now have my KTM road bike and XR8 insured with them and couldn't be happier

i was 20 when i bought my gt and was told by shannons that they would not insure me until i was 21. when i turned 21 and contacted them again they said i had to be 24! (or 25 cant remember) the only way around it was to transfer the car into my fathers name and just put me down as an extra driver. other than that i am stoked with shannons - very reasonable premiums and only real restriction is km but i dont drive it often enough for that to be a prob.

Shannons wouldn't cover my 19 year old daughter when she wanted to insure the AU, was told she had to be 25. When I purchased the car back of her I ended up putting it under commercial insurance as even though it is dearer initially, once you ask for a driver under 25 to be covered it evens up real quick. If an under 25 prangs it is $150.00 extra excess.

I've been with Shannons for a while and had a HX Monaro and currently a XR8. They were the cheapest I got a quote from, and I haven't had any dramas to date. I'm very happy with them.
As a side note, the guy's who aren't telling the insurance company about their mods, be very careful. I have seen claims been refused because certain items installed or put on the car, even if they were'nt damaged in the accident, were seen as contradictory to what you stated when the vehicle was first insured and that doesn't meet the agreement you signed on the contract. Some assesors WILL go out of the way to make life for you as difficult as possible. I've even had a bonnet protector refused in a claim because there was no evidence of it left to prove it was there in the first place
!!! Even though the clips and holders were still there!!!! In my experience, NRMA were the worst offenders, but they aren't on their own.
