Gidday,
I am rebuilding a EA Fairmont and have picked up a Fairmont Ghia with a digital dash. I was wondering if I can put this dash into the Fairmont? If so is there anything to change? Thank you, Cheers, Ross. |

Gidday Again,
I should add I guess, that the Ghia was a recovered stolen vehicle I picked up at the right price. The body and interior is a real mess but all the bits are there and it has a good running mpi motor and box. Cheers, Ross. |

To install a Ghia (digital) cluster into your Fairmont, requires alot of wiring to be modified. Its been done and I have done it myself but its alot of hassle and most parts of the cluster dont work (door ajar, few senders, etc) You COULD go the way I went by installing ghia dash & engine looms and you get the climate control :P but its alot of work. There is a doco floating about one of the forums that tells you how to install the digital cluster. someone should know

I have put the Digi dash in my EB and I currently have a Sports dash in my EA. I think by far the Sports dash is HEAPS better. If i had the Digi dash in my EA, my engine would be dead now coz i wouldnt have noticed the low oil pressure until a bearing went. Digi is pretty but not as informative as the sports cluster. Not worth the effort in my opinion.

Oil pressure not raising with revs or sitting to low is bad, oil pressure guages are great to keep an eye on whats happening, after a while, you know exactley how much oil needs ot be added simple by the position of the needle at idle when warm

I went for the digi cluster cause i couldnt be bothered making a adaptor loom up like brent did ;)
I just installed some 'speco' gauges :P to show the oil pressure and volts brent, not interested in making a loom up for a price :P

Thanks for the replys, The main reason I wanted to do it was that the odometer wasn't working in the Fairmont dash, and I couldn't get it through a RWC without it. The mechanic wanted $100 to replace the gear in the speedo and the wreckers want $220 for a working guage cluster. I thought it would be cheaper to just replace the cluster with the digi one. Anyway I found another wreck in a mates backyard with a working odometer and I've thrown that in and passed the RWC.
I have another question but I'll start a new thread. Again, thanks for the quick and knowledgable response. Cheers. Ross. |
