Default LSD's in V8 supercars.

Guys can you help me out? We are having an argument at home, and someone here thinks that V8 supercars have no LSD. Is this correct? I dont think it is, because when Rusty was doing Doughnuts, he was smoking two tyres, when they take off at the start, they smoke two tyres, when they leave the pits, again two tyres, and when they spin out, yep, two tyres again. Jeez I hope Im right on this otherwise, jeez Im an idiot.

yeah if u see one driving slowly the wheels skip when it turns corners which suggests they have a locker of some sort.... could it possibly be a very tightly shimmed lsd??

They are totally locked... It is in the rules to stop Active / Torsen style diffs.

Sorry mate. No LSD. They have a spooled/locked diff. They haven't run LSD's since the EB. Back then they had the option of spool or LSD. Then with the AU they moved to spooled diff's as a rule.

Nope, as others have said a fully locked spool diff.
Detroit lockers are 70's technology and bloody annoying (and trecherous) in a curcuit car.

That would explain them putting the car up on roller trolleys while moving them around the pits, It is damn had to push a turning car with a locker.

Bingo. No locker(s), no LSD's, no detroits. Just a simple Full Spool Hemisphere.

If you ever get into the pits watch them drive out of the garage, the inside wheel jumps and spins as they turn sharply.

I am pretty sure it is a locked spool running a 3.15 ratio. Well it was for Bathurst so they can go faster down the straits.

Diff ratios vary on different tracks, but all cars are told which ratio to use

Gee, after reading all these replies, which one do I believe? Spool, locker or LSD? I think I'll vote for spool, as that is what they use!

Yes despite someone already posting the link to the official rules and numerous others confirming its a spool others seem to ignore these facts, or dont read previous posts..

ITS a FULL SPOOL!!

3.15 is for bathurst only, as the cars were on the limiter for too long on conrod, and all other tracks they run 3.25 ratio.
All V8 supercars and I mean ALL run an ALLOY 35 spline full spool centre.
Its a forged alloy piece from Harrop.

Agree with the GT type lockers of yesteryear but since then the Detroit Locker has come a long way.NO-SPIN Lockers have bought out a improved detroit locker when in operation in coast mode you don't get that harsh feel and sound. They are quiter and smoother and is also legal on the street and works a treat.Spools are illegal for street duties and are a much cheaper option than a Detroit locker.
