Nice to see that such a huge story that would be front page news is known by a guy that works there part-time.

GM just increased Holdens design funding (due to the good work they done for the efijay) so I don't think GM would want to get rid of a profitable part of their business.

Holden are not the most profitable car maker... they make LESS margin on new vehicle sales than Ford Aus achieve. Fact.

Sure Holden sell more cars, but this does not result in greater profitability.

And as for take over by Toyo, surely this is BS. Imagine the media coverage ....

I think your mates are confusing themselves with this:

http://www.smh.com.au/news/business/...302825263.html

Holden is one of the most successful and profitable subsiduaries of GM in the world. Any suggestion of a takeover by Toyota is absolutely laughable.

It can be as profitable as it wants. If Toyota really wanted to buy Holden, it wouldn't be an issue for them. They have enough money to buy all of General Motors Corporation or Ford Motor Company in one hit.

Now, are they really going to buy Holden? I seriously doubt it.

Wouldn't be real difficult given that General Motors trading stock has been classed as "junk" more recently. They have had their credit rating lowered again and are periously close to going under for good.

Toyo could by not just buy Holden, but all of GM if they wanted... not that any pre purchase due dilligence would convince them that it was a good idea !

And what is wrong with Toyota in the 1st place, if this is true and Toyota purchase Holden, I for one will have no problem with it, infact if it does happen we will probably see Holden in a much better posistion to take the fight up to Ford in all segment's, ie small car, medium and large and let's not forget the SUV's, Toyota are in a very strong posistion in Aust, so people can not count them out, look at their performance side like Lexus and their contribution in F1.

If your mate isn't having you on, then he would have just broken a confidentiality clause, and would be up the creek. I'm rather suspicious that a part timer would be privy to due diligence work for a takeover, usually the only parties privy to such information are the top echolons of the finance department, the auditor, the transaction/due diligence advisors, the laywers, a merchant bank and senior management.

What difference would that make? Toyota make some of the best engines in the world. I'm sure they'd keep the v8 line going, hell they could even have a supply contract for Gen4s with GMH as part of the deal.

Rather a bit xenophobic for an already foreign controlled company aren't we?

I had a mazda 6 for 2 weeks, one of the best cars i have driven and boy it had grunt, unfortunatuly i got the sh*ts with it after 2 weeks and got rid of it. My feet were too big for the small peddles. Kept hitting the gas when i meant to go for the brakes. :
