Hey Guy's
I have an EB and i think my alternator is too small, i have a powerful sound system and when driving the head lights dull every time a beat comes, i am told it is a 85 Amp lternator, and that the EL's Have a better alternator of 108 Amp's, is this true and will it bold on if i can get one.?

Yes it will bolt on but you have to grind a little of the alternator housing to suit the upper bracket and find a 10 mm longer bolt and nut for the upper bracket and carefully grind a section of the top bracket where the nut passes. you also need a new larger belt Bosch 3PK995 by memory.
Done it, works fine on an ED, same as an EB. |

i dont think that will work to well, people have tried to do this without going the whole EF/EL setup and have had problems with the belt slipping. the EA-ED belts are way to thin for a 110 amp altenator.

No, the EL has a serpintine, micro V belt. Totally different to the classic V belt on the ED

just buy a capacitator that hooks up in between the battery and the amp, it stores power and dont put as much stress on the battery, and there like 100 bucks

V belt on ED? My EB doesnt have a V belt? I think u'll find that was only pre EB cars.
Ive got an EF+ 110A alternator and it works great! no belt slip at all! Opto is correct when he says u need to file out the bracket and use a different bolt. Brent

well considering the laws of physics regarding energy in a closed system, id have to say yes it will take more power from the motor (slightly more magnetic resistance) but u wouldnt even notice it.

So you can use an EF/EL alternator without even swapping the pully?

lmao... if its dimming with no engine on it has NOTHING whatsoever to do with your alternator size... only if it were doing it when the car was on... bigger alternator will achieve nothing

slightly off topic, but at night with my lights on and a very light sound system [no subs], when i put my indicator on the volt meter will drop almost 1 whole bar. its a lot of movement of the needle i thought. im sure my alternator is from factory.

not sure.. no experience with caps.. i do know that on caraudioaustralia they tested caps and spl output and in all cases they registered a higher spl reading without the cap that with it... on the other hand they reckon a 1 farad cap per 1000wRMS of power... i reckon your best bet would be to get a bigger battery, with a higher reserve capacity. if your battery wasnt charging you wouldnt be able to start it... for around 100-120 bucks i reckon go for a new battery... check out marine batterys which have a much higher capacity and are built much more solid than car batterys..
