Angry Starter Instalation/ Removal

So far ive spent 3/4 hours trying to remove my starter motor,
not quite sure as i spent all day at mates and helped him with his Brocky lol any way so far ive figured the engine has to be dead cool to even make it a possibility any way do you try to get at the hidden bolt from top or bottom its the BIGGEST PITA out of all the things i dont ever wish this upon anyone with Falcon anyway how do you do it "please" : : : e

By the way starter for brocky was easy but i had to show my mate how the adjustable base for starter works as his is universal

A block across the road from mates asked us to stop swearing at my car lol :

It's not as hard as you may think... Probably the best way to do it is from underneath. The bottom bolt is fairly easy, probably don't need to explain that. The top bolt is a bit tricky, usually best to use a 3/8 ratchet with an extension. That way you should have enough swing to get it undone. Its difficult to do laying down so the higher you can get the car the better. From the top you need a 13mm? spanner, and a small steel extension welded to it. There is very little room to swing the spanner, and it takes bloody ages, but thats the only other way.

it's easy, takes me 10 minutes, i just use a 13mm spaneer a short one from underneith. I'm lucky with my Falcons once it undones a bit it comes out by hand. Lukes (X Rated top bolt is a ИИИИИ as it's cross threaded) :S

A 13 mm ratchet style spanner would be ideal.

top bolt... easiest to do from top, small ratchet set with a few extensions and universal joint...

i reckon the best way it to get a few long extensions, and run in the whole length of the motor underneath the intake manifold with a 1/2 inch ratchet, better then taking the intake manifold off, aswell as laying around on the ground getting piles, the unijoint one is good but by faaark me bajeebus uni joints ИИИИ me off

I put car on stands, let it cool, disconnect battery, dissconect starter wires (2), ran arm/hand between starter and firewall whilst moving heater tap etc.. with other hand, that got my hand on the top bolt, i found icould let go of the heater tap etc... and slide a 13 mm open end/ring spanner into my hand, onto the top bolt and slowly remove top bolt, if you leave the bottom bolt on it locates the starter and makes it easier to remove .
Then obviously i removed the bottom bolt and the starter fell on me lol.
I find itss best to tell people of all my problems when i do somethin difficult so when someone else tries they know exactly what to expect.
I found because its an enclosed area the engine has to be cool as a cucumber to do this, if the heater to thermostat hose is cool it should be ok .

The only reason i finished at 3.00am is because the engiine had to cool completely .
