Can anyone assist with adjusting the handbrake on AU11 Fairmont with IRS, other than the small nut below the handbrake lever I cant find any other adjustment in the cable. (cant even see where it connects above the diff)

This is something i have to do on my auII aswell - i dont know about tensioning the cable more from the 'lever' end inside the car , but i did notice when i had my rear wheels off the other day that the inner front face of the discs has the small screws in them , i believe this is the adjustment as it is on other cars, except most other cars dont have a screw blocking the hole . I'de say its just a matter of removing the screw near the centre of the front of the discs behind rear wheels ( take wheels off ) . once the screw is out u will need a long/thin flat head screw driver to stick in the hole and catch on the gear/cog like device and wind it towards the ground to tighten brakes / winding it up will loosen the brakes. standard usually is keep winding it down until u can't spin the disc by hand anymore , then back it of a 1/4 turn... gl ( this adjustment to be made with the handbrake off )

Same adjustment for live axle and IRS. It's tough to get right though.

oh... with the IRS i think u have to put the the whole ИИИИ of the car on stands and remove both wheels , otherise if u have 1 wheel on the ground u wont be able to spin the disc to check your handbrake setting .... i think , not to sure on that 1 , although i know we had the oldmans car up on stands at the rear and both wheels off and he has IRS and we were able to spin the drum np while setting the handbrake.. don't quote me on this though , u might be able to do it with at least 1 rear wheel on the ground with IRS ?????????? im not sure cos i havent tried yet with 1 rear wheel still on the ground.

I got Ford to do it for $54. Made it nice and tight on the lever but occassionally it squeaks after being applied at rest. In fact the day I got home from Ford it was squeaking after I had stopped near my house. Maybe I should loosen it a little at the lever nut.
