Default Hyundai beats Commodore V6

Reading the motoring section of the local rag on Sat and came across an article talking about the V6 Sonata .. 173kw with Euro4 emissions rating. Supposedly with the Euro3 rating at the start of this year the base 3.6L Commodore V6 was dropped from 175kw to 172kw. Nice .. even Hyundai is more "powerful" (it didn't say anything about torque though).

Sonata is a 3.3L Alloy VVT Quad Cam, 173kw @ 6000RPM, with a Holden beating 340nm @ 3500RPM, the 172kw commo motor has 320nm @ 2800RPM, and their 190kw motor has 335nm @ 3200RPM

with 300cc LESS !!

And add insult, its a Hyundai ! :

BTW: From my perspective this is not an anti-Holden rant .. I own a VY1 SV8. I'm just embarrassed that an Aussie "big six" gets outdone by a Korean made car!!

Meh its not a big loss really.

Only 1KW and 20NM, but yes it does seem kinda sad that a 3.3L V6 Korean car is making more power and torque then a 3.6L V6 Aussie car.

What is the bet that Holden drops the base model V6 for the VE ???
I think that the 190kw version will be standard across the board.
Just like what ford did when they got rid of that horrible 3.2 cfi thing they had in the EA.

Btw: Are there any of those 3.2 cfi motors around ??? Thay would be as rare as a 250 2V wouldnt they ???

They only made something like 800 3.2Cfi EAs, it was dropped after the first year.

Problem with the 190kw version is that it needed Premium Unleaded to get that power figure ... so the running costs would be much more

Hmm if premium is needed to get 190kw, will the supposed 200kw version of the alloytec, for the VE, need premium? ИИИ thats note gonna be a good thing with fuel prices nowadays

Most European cars are using premium fuels now anyway, if we want motors that run more efficiently we need to move away from this 91 octane rubbish.

I just looked up the hyundai site and the V6 actually has only 304nm of torque making the holden V6 just a little bit more powerful but considering the size of the Hyundai V6 on paper it looks like it may be a half decent jigger.

The Grandeur is 340Nm from the 3.8L V6 ... and 194kw as well.
The Sonata uses a 3.3L V6 with lower power and torque figures

Does anyone know when EUROIV emissions might come into effect. If its within 2 years we might see BFII recalibrated with Orion engines. If its after then we wont..

Hyundia basic six has a advantage in power over holden, and the 3.8 has it over the Fordy. Impressive..

I hope you aren't confusing the s/c 6 which required pulp with the 190kw alloytek that does NOT require pulp to get 190....

Umm, ok, i think your looking on the Hyundai International Site, when i look on the Hyundai Australia site, under Sonata, it comes up with this:

True that, the 260kw figure from the 6litre in the Commy is based on 98octane fuel.

BTW = I couldnt give a toss about Hyundai : But those kinda figures from a 3.3Litre arent bad i reckon. Still, prob only has 100'000km life, like all other Hyundais

Well since all you guys are bashing Holdens engine, dont you think its a little sad Ford's massive 4.0 litre 6 "only" makes 190kW.
Hyundai's 3.3 litre has only 15kW less power. :nutsycuck

its still more than the others, we also have a 5.4 puting out 260kw where the holden needs 6.0l to get that output. LMAO
