Default 5-litre V8 Should I or shouldn't I?

Looking at a '95 DF11 LTD with 5-litre V8. Always been a six man but this is a nice car and also on duel-fuel. What are the down sides of a V8? Cost of engine parts? Labour? Its done 200K but kept very clean. I need to decide....

Nah, in all seriousness... you'll find that in the e-series world, a stock 5.0L is slower than its overhead-cammed 6 cylinder counterpart. You'll also find that its a bit more expensive when modification time comes around each year -

a) because there are a few key parts which need to be replaced in order to get the performance ball rolling (intake manifold, heads, MAF, exhaust) and;

b) often there will be two of everything to suit the V cofiguration... heads, valvetrain etc.

But the stock 5.0L in its natural form is a beautiful daily driver. Mileage shouldnt even be a consideration for the engine - it will usually outlast the vehicle which is carrying it around.

I agree with the 6's beating 8's part. The E series V8 cars are not a good option especially with increasing fuel prices.

Best to go with the 6 cylinder version.

Definately for a cruiser or daily.

Nothing sounds as good as a 8.

Offer them 6 grand.
7-7.5 if the tranny has been redone.
DF2 LTD's are going for around 8K with 120-130K on them.

Having a close look it has a complete service record documented in the books.
Its pretty grubby, hasn't been detailed which surprised me for dealers I thought they would spruce it up. But its good in a way because you can tell its spent a lot of time out in the weather, dull black trim around windows, dullish paint(I'm sure it would come up good with a polish) grubby but sound leather and general trim. I reckon they might come at 7K-ish, but on the way home I got side tracked by a '99 AU Fairlane on gas for 14K with 165K on the speedo. Hmmm.... talk about a state of confusion!! In a way I'd rather spend bit more and get a new generation model like that. Into the think-tank I go!

Yeah boys I'm tending to an AU Fairlane for sure. That damn DF11 is filthy compared to my old NA. Definitely want to go a later model for all my troubles!

Seriously mate, if you want to spend that sort of money on a DF then that AU is not a bad sort of price. The motor in the AU, with the IRS and LPG would be enough to convince me to got for a later model.

I would shop around online to get a feel for the price for the AU as it still a bit on the high side. Perhaps you could then find some real world prices on the web to haggle the dealer a bit more for a better outcome.
