Hi guys!
Recently , i have been pondering whether or not to supercharge or turbo my ute. It's a 03, AUIII XLS Marlin ute 5spd manual . I want to go up to a xr6 turbo ute, but im in love with mine , and i need more speed :sm_headba . What are your suggestions on this ? I am looking forward to hearing from ya guys! Also another question , i have been told by alot of people my engine block cover, considering it is red, is a more uptodate engine... i even had one guy telling me its equivalent to a tickford motor ... so i dont know !! lol , anyways here is some pics for ya guys. Cheers! Marlin Magic Townsville |

Turbo. Or supercharger. Same thing, different method. Pick one a do it properly, and you'll forget all about the BA XR6T ute.

Me personally, I'd rather the turbo, but there are so many now. I like the idea of the blower, but that's the main game for Holden! LOL! Whatever you choose, all the very best with it. GK

Im a big fan of the supercharged i6. Turbo would be awesome too.. but just i dont like the turbo lag.. Either would be a great but i say S/C.

I guess there don't seem to be many daily driven Fords out there that are supercharged. That would make the project all that more exclusive, if you go for that!
Surely turbo lag can be minimised with a good setup these days? GK

Thanks your considerations, im starting to turn to the darkside of a s/c , so i will have a hunt for s/c kits and see what goes from there. Anyone know some sites that sell these, other than ebay.

Your main place for the s/c route is CAPA www.capa.com.au
The supercharger option might cost you less but I'd go a turbo. That's what I'm in the process of doing. If that's your thing try www.snortperformance.com or http://www.6boost.com/

Even though I'm a Ford man, my brother in law isn't. He's got a supercharged statesman, he replaced the pulley upping the boost from 6 to 10 I think, and he blew a GenIII guy away from the lights.
He has noticed BTW a rather large increase in fuel consumption, but I'm tipping you're not fussed about that right? LOL! GK

I will be supercharging my ute in future. After I've done other bits and pieces to it.
I wouldn't mind a turbo either.

superchargers are so much easier to install.. If you can change injectors, a fuel pump, add a regulator and swap the fan belt you are 90% there.. If you go over 6psi though, you'll have to look at some cooling set-up ie, intercooler or water injection
Then just the final tune The biggest bonus of the S/C option is it can be done in stages and the car can always be in a driveable state. I have had mine on for over a month to fabricate the cooler pipework etc and just run the standard belt to keep the car driveable

Daily driven supercharged falcs are great. I imagine daily driven turbos are as well
$8000 would get you running no probs and you could fit yourself easily. You'll be hitting the dynos whilst your mates fitting turbos are still looking for a good exhaust manifold and rigging up their external wastegates!! Hehehe. Of course, what i mean there is that blowers (i.e. CAPA kits) are very easy to install.

If you were auto I'd suggest a S/C kit.
Manual you are probably better off with a turbo kit ... but an S/C kit can still be very fun indeed. THere are also Snort Performance supercharger kits out now as well.

More potential with turbo over supercharging in a manual ... with a manual you can stall it up and reduce/eliminate lag altogether with a well put together system.
There was a decent turbocharged manual AUI XR6 at Crescent Motorsport the other week getting tuned ... and it was making a healthy 850+ Nm of torque ... very little lag as well. With an auto ... you will have lag issues ... unless you have a stallie (but when rolling and under the revs needed ... you will still have lag issues with turbo) ... hence why i'd prefer supercharging with an auto. If I can get the cash together myself I'd be very interested in supercharging the ute. But before I do ... I need to spend decent money on bigger brakes (larger rotors and at least 4-piston calipers) ... insurance goes through the roof ... and also getting the entire vehicle engineered as well ... also I'd need at least a new auto transmission as well ... or my current one rebuilt and strengthened to handle all the low end torque. Add it all up ... and I'll need well over $10K to do everything i need to get it working properly and have a safe vehicle to drive at the same time ... then the extra cost of insurance every year too.

Turbo, the options are endless.
With Supercharger, you can only follow two paths really.

Yeah , had a look at that one too and i think that the guy was running it with a standard ecu and had a handheld controller running a extra std injector ??? but after all that the question remains why would he go gas if the thing was economical ???

Turbo all the ay for the 6
CAPA's super chargers rely on revs to build boost the ol Ford 6 isn't that rev happy Turbo's provide a better torque responce and more boost at low rpm. Far better IMO. Yes I've had a supercharger on a Ford 6 and My 8 My mate went the Turbo on his ED 6 and it was far better all round IMO.

Why not do both? It would be quite unique.

I have seen a 1000hp turbo on a soarer with a small 2l supercharger to get it all humming. It just took the place of the A/C pump. Went for a ride in that puppy too.
felt strong, certainly made a fantastic noise.
