Well as some of you know, since the cam installed, my fuel economy has been out the window. I fixed a loose throttle cable which I thought might solve the problem, but after a week, the short lived fuel savings blew out again to the 17.5l/100km mark, down from 18l/100km. (Yay)
Another trip into Road & Track Services. Another Diagnostic. Apparently the Idle Vacuum is only 15 inches, hence why the car is overdelivering fuel at idle, the ECU believes the throttle body is open, when it is not. Apparently the only way to fix this is a vernier gear to adjust the cam "just so" to get idle working properly again. At only $110 for the gear itself and no install/dyno cost I guess I cant complain, but this drama has been dragging on for over 2 months, and I just want this to end and work correctly. Before I die or retire.

haha dirty injectors, less flow = better economy.
I might start putting dirt in the tank.... I think I average at least 450 a tank....but then I haven't filled up my tank in ages. The change to premium fuel has hurt the wallet somewhat.

My stock AUII with a tickford snorlke gets 450 kms in Sydney traffic from a 68 litre tank. I'm paying a $1.10 a litre so 300 kms form an 82 got to hurt.
Its not stuck in first gear? Uncle_Ken |

I've seen my Fairlane's 68 litre tank at read 633 on the DTE after filling up on BP Ultimate. I guess that's pretty good? Wasn't going highway speeds.

Good news. Power has returned down low, economy seems to be improving quickly if DTE is something to be believed.
Bad news. Just noticed someone has either run into the back of the ute while at the mechanics, or one of their braindead moronic cretin like employees has backed my ute into something. Whole back bumper will need to be replaced.

What sort of labour cost was involved with dialing in the veneer and advancing the cam a few degrees?

Bloody hell! Good luck with taking it back to them concerning the damage. Once I picked up my car from a repair shop after they had to cancel due to too much work. All I wanted was a deep right-side bumper scratch done. I then went straight to a shopping centre and came back to the car to find the left-side had been keyed - two doors and rear quarter panel. I did wonder if it had been done at the mechanics, tho.

Went and saw them this morning, damage will be fixed by the panel beater next week, so all sorted.
car is flying today, idle is still lumpyish, but more stable then before and not associated with massively rich fuel smell wafting through the cabin of the ute.

So has it been dyno'd again or do they think the results should be pretty comparable to last time ?

yeah its been dyno'd again, making a bit less power at peak, but the curve has shifted up and the left everywhere else over the old curve.
I noticed there before vernier dyno was less then my previous dyno with the cam and chip. yeah that doesnt sound complicated... not... lol

Funny that, there was a thread the other day with many saying it's not necessary to have a vernier gear.
I wasn't one of them...... : Rick.

I wouldnt fit a cam without one on a 6 now. Granted I still need to keep an eye on fuel consumption over this week to see how it goes, but if only for fine tuning the cam for power, its made a huge difference to my setup.

Verniers are essential to get the best out of the cam. I had mine advanced a tad today and already see a difference down low and better idle etc.

Its going alot better now mate, fuel has dropped to about 16-14l/100 depending on temps, traffic and how hard I cane her. I might looking at getting a dyno in shootout mode done once ive had my transmission serviced.
