Why do you need a new ECU?

Knowing that ford charge like a wounded bull you could probably get a flash tuner or similar for a few more bucks

Hi Guys, i need a new one....My ECU packed it in....The car will not start and the the smart shield light will not turn off.

This is what happened, in the driveway idle my bro was in the passenger seat he tapped the computer with his foot (to music) and the car stalled. I started it again and it was ok. I got him to tap it again to see what happened and now it will not start at all.

I have told ford and they told me i will need a new one and that it is a common problem with cars that have been chiped.

a chipped computer & your mate kicking the ecu are no way related. Ford is full of ****. If the smartshield light wont turn off, it indicates its been activated & has immobilised your car. It needs to be reset

that's exactly right! it just needs to be reset. The ford ecu doesn't like add on chips - the smartshield totally immobilisers the car. Trust me I've been there done that! nothing worse driving along in peak hour traffic and your car just STOPS and wont start!

I was running a unichip and capa eprom on my supercharged au xr8 ute. Turned out to be the capa eprom (small chip about the size of a ****y lil motherboard from a 1980's digital watch - purpose was so the ecu can recognize boost from the SC). I got rid off the capa eprom and unichip and installed a custom chip from chiptorque. I got an extra 19rwkw and no more smartshield/ecu problems.

Chiptorque have the ford ecu all figured out regarding the smartshield.

just take your car to a dyno centre.. they will put your car on the dyno and give it a run - from that they can get all the info on what exactly your car is doing in regards to what modifications you have.. they than fax all that info from the dyno readings to chiptorque to make a custom chip to suit. Im not sure if your ecu has to be sent to chiptorque for the first fitment of the chip (vin lock). Im not to experience with diagnostics so i can't really answer that part - maybe someone else can advise.
