Where do you get your car mods?

Hey Guys,

Recently had my engine rebuilt because of a problem that Ford created with it. I've got a mate with one of Aus's fastest WRX MY01 Wagons, who tells me that now is the time to do upgrades like chips, exhaust mods, supercharger, etc. I drive an 02 AU3 XR6 in schmick condition, and am considering the different things i should do to it. My problem is that my mate reckons I should go to MRT where his car has been totally re-done under the hood, and i'm keen to, but i'm interested to know, a) if you'd go to MRT, and b) if not, why and where would you go? Bear in mind that I'm in Sydney and I'm not really planning to travel too far to get my car sorted. Let me know what you think.

I'm curious as to what problem Ford created?

Who are MRT? If they specialise in water cooled VW engines (Subaru) would they be any good on a 'normal'(

) engine

I most likely will be going to MRT to get my flash tuner, and gearbox serviced, etc. I have only heard good things about them...

MRT specialise in late model Japenese vehicles ... mainly Subaru, Honda, Daihatsu and Mitsu (sometimes).

One of the guys at work get's his WRX serviced there .. as they are a Subaru (URABUS) specialist.

I'd be going to one of the Ford Specialists around Sydney to get your servicing:

A few of them are:
Autotech Engineering
Crescent Motors
Intune

There are others ... just have a flip through some Ford mags and you will find the main ones.

MRT are a Subaru Specialist, but they are the Sydney dealer and specialist in CAPA, which do a whole lot of Ford sepcific mods...they Specalise in Subaru, Mitsubishi and Ford, so i'll probably go there, like D1XR2C I'ved only heard great things about it.

Gas - Ford for some reason put a new camshaft in the car in late 2004...previous to me owning it. When they put the engine back together it seems that the valve guide in cylinder 5 wasn't reseated correctly...I told Ford multiple times within warranty that there was something wrong, a ticking noise...people told me it's cause it was a 'tickford' lol, fair enough....lo and behold in june this year (outside warranty) the valve guide fell into the cylinder and meant that I had to get the whole engine rebuilt...$4500 later and a new radiator cause they changed the coolant type without flushing the cooling system, I have a car that runs better than new with stonger parts than new...so yeah, Ford fault, but won't accept responsibility...law suit is in process...anyways...

So yeah, interested to hear any other opinions on MRT, cause they seem to be a CAPA Specalist....check out capa.com.au for more info on that...

So are Intune and Autotech Engineering ... and now Crescent AFAIK are a dealer/tuning specialist for the CAPA Flasher. All these workshops I mentioned do Ford specific mods as well.

Autotech are also dealers/suppliers for APS as well.

Bummer.. was it far out of warranty?

I'd still be going to a Ford guy though... unless you want to show all the rice owners hanging around MRT what a real car looks like

if i were to take my car to a shop it would be autotech hands down a very well fit out and well presented shot ive seen no other like it mrt included.
mrt do have a good rep but have a reputation of being expensive and dare i say they wouldnt know as much about the 6 as a ford specialist mainly because everyone outside the ford world frowns upon our na 6's and most of the time dont give a rat about them.
if your after custom bits get a hold of Jays RPD a very nice bunch of blokes and very well switched on when it comes to the NA 6

lol....that's the plan...Manufacturer warranty ran out in oct 05, problem happening june 06, my ext warranty i bought 'covered' till last week...of course each wanted to say it was the other one's problem...Manufacturer warranty says it's extended warranty cause it's covered by them, and ext warr tell me it's manufac warr cause i told them abuot ot 3 or 4 times in new car manufac warr...stupid insurance brokers and warranty dealers....always trying to find a way out of everything...Manufacturers warranty offered a 'good will' donation of $200 towards teh repair...lol...I didn't ask for their pity money...I told them that they were responsible for the repair...I just had to get it fixed and back into a car cause I needed to get around....so I payed for it and am sorting it out through the courts as we speak...
