Default Ford concedes XR8 not worth $52,000 - BFII $6K cheaper

It appears that Ford has conceded that it was ripping off its customers by selling its flagship performance sedan for $52,000 RRP. The price slash of greater than $6,000 for BFII is testimony that the XR8 has been overpriced since at least 2002, when the BA arrived to clean up the mess left by the AU.

The move comes in response to the bargain $45k sticker on the VE SS, which is equivalent to the VZ SV8 in terms of equipment levels. The XR8 was deemed unable to compete against the VZ SS's replacement, the VE SS-V, which was similarly priced to the XR8 before the shock price cut was announced by a red faced Ford.

Further, the price cut illustrate's Ford's incredible laziness, for they preferred to devalue the XR8, rather than develop it into something as equally good as its traditional rival. And why? Probably because they can't see any money in doing something like that.

And so die hard Ford V8 customers have once again been let down by Ford. This company has displayed absolute contempt for its customers and the resale values of XR8s.

Your point is?

The VZ SS was around the same dollars, so whats that make it? a Rip off aswell?

Add luxury pack, side airbags and a few other goodies on the XR8 and you have an SSV competitor.

Biggest load of **** ive ever read, they have done it because HOLDEN started it and had to respond, if anyones to blame its Holden mate.

You are clearly a troll. Holden cut the price of VE Commodores so Ford had no alternative but to follow.

Constructive.

You havent responded to my critism of what you have to say.

The XR8 is a nice car, it serves its purpose and was priced to suit the markets needs.

I like this one in particular.

Holden has a notorious habit of upping specs and power levels midway through models i.e. Series II models have more power than Series I. Thats where you lose huge resale if you've bought a series I. So if you want to talk about contempt for customers, let's talk about Holden doing that.

But you wouldnt know about that, because Holden is perfect, right? :

Didn't Holden realise that they were ripping off their customers with the adventura so they sent cheques back to all those who bought one

Holden's constant updating allows customers to upgrade to an even more innovative model or otherwise appreciate their current car. Ford XR8 cutomers on the otherhand would have nothing to update to. If they have a 2002 model which needs updating, a 2006 model isn't going to offer anything more, especially as a manual. So their only real choice is to make the move to an VE SS-V.

So the SS-V is worth the $$? What has it got over the SS that makes it 8k more? Some leather and rims? Sorry but all you have done is come here to stir the pot. Constructive criticsim? I don't think so, i don't even think you'd know the meaning of such a phrase.

LMAO! just spilt my drink.

Far out slick, how long did they take to teach you that sort of reasoning at Holden's salesman training centre?

"Even more innovative" - hell yes, I like it!

Pardon me, Im just off to buy a Holden on the advice of some knob on an internet forum - and the wrong forum at that :

Your a Tosser, we have a Six speed auto to upgrade to.

Most people who have had an XR8 upgrade to an FPV neways.

Time you went and did your homework, otherwise you might be on lunch detention tomorrow.

I don't see a real problem... VZSS250 has some valid points, just because we don't like how it was worded doesn't really make him a troll imo..

If it was worded " FORD slash 6k off XR8 to secure more market share etc etc" who would be in such a twist?

Obviously with his user name he is waving a different flag, but reading thru his post laden with propaganda the crux of what he is saying is true isn't it?

you don't deserve to own an AU. Don't you realise that you are just kidding yourself? Why dont you get an SS? They are soooooooooo much better, and they're just as ugly as an AU so you dont lose that "ugly duckling" feel.

i would like to see the xr8 have more balls and whip a stock SS over the quater. if they improved it to be compeditive it would be better in my eyes. both cars have good and bad points im not here to argue that but bench racing can do alot for a car / brands image.

I actually agree with you, the blue blood in me has ignored the actual wording of his post however the actual crux of it is spot on, the XR8 was overpriced from the start when stacked up against the XR6T, In sedan form the premium was almost 5000 over the xr6t but when compared with the utility it was only 1100. Fortunately for us Ford fans Holden put Ford on the back foot by rebranding their SV8 to SS putting it up against the traditional rival in the XR8. Its healthy competition and will shaft resale on current XR8s but hey thats life, you dont buy a current model car to make money.

Although it could have been worst they could have changed v8 engines mid way through a model, now that would **** me off.

Dave

The purpose of this thread was to start some discussion about how fair it was for Ford to cut the price of the XR8 to $44,990, when its been selling the same car to its customers since 2002 for more than $50k. I'm surprised nobody is angry about the price cut, especially XR8 owners, who until recently thought they were driving around in a $52k car.

I have previously criticised FPV for refusing to upgrade its Boss290 motor.

I just want to see Ford bring out something new so that when I buy my next car, I have a choice between two manufatcturers. I am not so one-eyed as people think. In fact, the reason I come to this forum is to see if the Ford product is going in the right direction.

But when you see a car without any power upgrades for 5 years, its really disappointing. Instead of increasing sales by product development, ford have preferred the discounting strategy.

I rather like to look at it from the bright side in that now the XR8 is $6000 cheaper. You may find it contempt looking for the negative in Ford but I'll look at it as a bonus.

WTF? A 2002 BA Falcon came with a 5 speed manual. A 2006 BF MkII Falcon comes with a 6 speed manual. I'd say that does offer something more
