What's your source? And does this apply to both P1 and P2?

Can't see any issues there, some good initiatives, it should be a piece of cake to comply without causing any problems at all.

I dont see how having a learners permit for 12 months will make any difference. Point 3 seems a bit draconian. Point 2 has merit. Point 1 , a no brainer.

but what about young people with kids and a partner?
these laws are rediculous. i keep saying it. they keep bringing in regulations and legislation but the road toll IS GOING UP! why? because people make mistakes. l platers, p platers, open drivers, unlicensed drivers, young and old, men and women, we make mistakes. when we make mistakes in 1500 kg metal missiles, people die. you will never remove the road toll. never! these rules will not reduce the road toll i promise you. |

Not ALL young drivers deserve these new laws. They should be applied to some older ones as well.

The 17 to 21 bit is stupid. So a P plater can take 4 of his 16 year old friends to a party. If those friends all turn 17 at midnight, he can't take them home again!
If they are saying that it's the mob mentality that causes most P plater accidents, then it should just be one passenger, and that's it. Better still, ban them from cars altogether and make them use motorbikes (/sarcasm). I can see that they want to do the right thing, but this is not it. Next thing you know they'll make it illegal to steal a car!

So these laws are only for the Red P platers?
The passenger limit is stupid. Will mean MORE P Platers on the road at night probably leading to MORE crashes. |

If you hold a P-plate license from another state will the rules still apply? or does it only apply to NSW license holders in NSW

Imagine what's going to happen with the no night time thing... young people taking off their P-Plates and driving with friends, then the police come, they get scared, crash etc. Or instead of 5 people in one car, 5 people in 5 cars driving around. That'll be a good thing...... :togo:

Well, it dosent affect me in the slightest, i still have 12 months till open license, but i think the power restriction was the biggest shake up for P-platers....

Something HAS to be done, no single initiative will resolve it, but HATS off to the authorities for at least trying, i believe there will be "idiot testing " introduced soon too, but maybe we should stop grizzling and moaning over these rules and just work with them hey....

I agree with most of them espesially the one about having only one passenger. most of the young people in this area are idiots and they drive around drinking and being stupid, so now they have to walk. I like it.
P-platers will learn to secure their plates because if they fall of they lose their license. now thats weird.

If these new laws are so good, why wait until July? Why not have them enacted immediately? Or even retrospectively? (which can be done when it is in the public's interest).

if they want to bring in restrictions, make it so that everyone has to abide by them.
4vman says that p platers are " more likely " to be involved in an accident? so what? open drivers have accidents as well. who cars who is more likely to have a prang? road toll is road toll no matter who makes up the majority. |
