Default TS50 Driving Lights Mounting

Hey guys,

Just got fitted a TS50 Bar to my car. Just seeing how everyones driving lights are mounted. Mine they have made up a bracket from the bottom of the bar and bolted to that, but i dont like that idea as the bar will flex which will move the lights. I would rather mount as it shows on the AWC website for the XR50 bars. How do the genuine TS50's mount and how have others mounted. Pics would be great.

Cheers Col.

Oh heres a pic of my bar.

So is it a Ford bar? I'm assuming it is ... in which case there are two re-inforced legs moulded into the lower tray of the bar. The OE (I notice from the pic yours aren't) lights have a metal platform (inverted u-shaped) which mounts to the legs and then in turn the light mounts to that platform and incorporates a simple adjusting mechanism. Yes there can be vibration which can cause damage to the plastic light housing on the OE lights. But movement of the lower bar never causes light movement which is noticeable when driving (at least not until the bodies crack LOL).

nah, its an AWC fibreglass bar, so alot more flex when driving than a plastic one on the lower part of the bar. Thanks for your info though, seems to be a similar method of mounting (A little different). Cheers

I'd say there'd be less flex with fibreglass to be honest.

the bottom of the genuine bar has a mounting point. its the bottom directly under the the light opening. The light mounts to a big bracket and then you screw the bracket to the bounting points on the bar. You can adjust the lights that way, is really easy.

This mean's the best way for you to mount your lights would be as per AWC's web site.

Here is the article on how to fit your lights. http://www.awcinfo.com/techxr50.htm TS50 and XR50 use the same method to mount the lights.

Sorry, that is nothing like a TS50 - at least not on the Series III - not even the same light.

This is for an aftermarket light. Not a genuine one. Since the XR50 uses a bottom half TS50 bar its a good indication.

It's not the same mounting method - not that it doesn't work for the aftermarket lights, but it certainly won't work for the FF200 Hella lights that Ford used.

qldwagons, they put in a set of 100mm Narva Driving lights.
http://www.narva.com.au/ForwardLighting_3.html

I have just checked out there website and would have rathered the next set, they have built in angel eyes, which would look mean hooked up with the parkers.
http://www.narva.com.au/ForwardLighting_4.html

Thanks JC for those measurements. Muchly appreciated.

Cheers Col.

Heheheh - 100mm Narva driving lights don't throw as much light as the standard XR headlights - might as well put the fog version down there and at least it would be something you could make use of.

There alright, light up the road fairly well, i do alot of highway running so i like to run with them on and just the parkers, otherwise i go through to many Headlight bulbs, and thats where my real source of light at night is. I have them pointed low so they dont shine in anyones eyes, but are still visible, and i have them aimed to fill in the dark spot you get at night when using high beams when its raining or has been raining and the road gets very very black (If you know what i mean). Even set higher as driving lights they put out a pretty good beam, i can easily light up things down the road, they shine all the way to the end of my street and light up houses & trees very well, and thats a good 170-200 odd metres. So not to bad, funny you mention it though i would have rathered the fog ones in there, would suit my purpose alot better, but they will do for the time being.

Yep, they are a good spread beam style driving light - and they are very good at filling in the shadows that the standard AU lights leave all over the road.

When I made the comment about the XR lights - you have standard AU so it wasn't directed at you as such - but I have to laugh at AWC for fitting them (Narva 100s) into the lower bar on the XR50 stlye when used on an XR - the lights would be a total waste of time.

yeah bucky's do look good, would like something similar. Do his come out even or are they slightly offset to go with the curve of the rear bar? I cant quite see in the pics of his car.

Cheers

Go to the AWC site, and they have fitting instructions and light sizes there, but no measurement on the brackets. So combine their stuff with the bracket dimensions I posted, and Jack's your uncle's mate.

OT - ironic that the sentence you managed to spell correctly is the one asking not to complain about spelling - which shows you can do it, you just don't want to! (insert whatever smiley you like here).
