The remote volume control on the steering wheel has buggered up, the + volume get stuck and the volume keep increasing
 : If I turn the radio off at an acceptable level then on again it is OK as long as you don't touch the control, however when it is in this state no buttons on the radio / CD work however if you insert a CD it plays at that voume, so I have 2 questions: * Do you have to remove the steering wheel to take off the seek / + / - button assembly ? * As the + button seems to be overriding the operation of the other buttons what wire connector at the bottom of the steering column is related to this as I want to disconnect it as a tempory fix. You have to remove the steering wheel to take the buttons off.
Have you changed your cluster? I had the same issue after changing the cluster.

u dont need to remove the steering wheel at all. on the sides underneath the control are 10mm bolts, undo these and u can remove the front assembly, then unplug the wiring for airbag, placing it on cardboard face up (static electricity can set the bag off so handle with care) the controls are on the main steering assembly and easy to get to, problem could be as easy as dirt and grime on the pads.

Thanks guys, I have not changed the cluster, it just happened, I would think it is some crud in there or bent contacts as if I lever the + / - controls away from their backing plate then the volume does not keep increasing and the other controls become operative.
au2sw - can you be more specific about the location of the 10mm bolts, I will go and look now but I can not recall any bolts in that area. TIA, John...... |

u will see a round cut out on either side of the wheel, underneath the volume control and cruise control (if fitted) pop these out with a small flat blade screw driver, and the bolts r under there (one per side)

They are a bastard to get off
You can get a $30 kit from bunnings that has a flat blade with a notch taken out of it. It isn't the correct tool but it is suitable. Do not get the similar kit from Dick Smith, I snapped every one of them. |

The kit is a "security tool" kit it comes with a lot more than just the flat blade with a notch - I should have mentioned that. It doesn't have the 5 sided security torx bit unfortunately.

I found the torx bolts under the cover but will not have time to remove it before Saturday as we are going down to Lorne for a week, my second option was to temporarily disconnect the control at the base of the steering column, does anyone know what connector / wire colors it is or should I just disconnect them all until I have the right one ??
