Wheel bearing noise?

Hi guy's.

I was driving through the timber sction of Bunnings the other day, and when I slowly drove off, I noticed a slow sqeeling type noise that stopped when I stopped. It was fairly loud in the enclosed space of the loading area. I kind of put my foot on the peddle to see if that made it stop, but it didnt, only when I increased speed did it die down.

Is this the symptom of a wheel bearing? If so, what is the best way to find out, and how can you tell which wheel?

Also, how much does it cost to replace your wheel bearings?

have you changed your discs lately, could be your handbrake shoes touching on the inside of the disc, it stop when you stop, start to move it starts to squeak/squeel.

No, I have not changed discs lately, but that could be the problem, it's a kind of high pitch squeel. Is handbrake front or rears?

Hi Scott,

I'd reckon it's the dreaded handbrake shoes! They are on the rears.

My "swish swish swish" noise, which preludes the "squeak squeak squeak" has started again, only around 4 months after having the handbrake shoes changed and adjusted.

I don't think it can ever be fixed fully!

i grinded my handbrake shoes the other day like you Did GK and its worked, but i think its slowly coming back, the worst thing is they bloody move around once u put it back together anyway which suks.

i have just replaced my wheel bearings. front (you can only get the hub assembly, not seperate bearings) cost me $130 and rear bearing set me back $30. these are also trade prices, so expect about another 10% or so on that. also this was in queensland and not from ford.
