Default Tint quote

Hey guys.
Well i've finally got round to booking in to replace the great bubble effect tint that was on the car when i bought it and just got quoted $300 from Tint-A-Car in Niddrie to remove it and replace with midnight express (darkest legal), does this price sound alright?

My other question is has anuone used this tint? And if so was it good quality, and any pics?

Cheers

Not sure whether it actually a lower grade or whether its more the colour or appearance of colour from the tint if you get what i mean. I'm pretty sure its just a fancy name for there darkest legal (Midnight express that is).

The name doesn't have anything to do with how dark it is, that's what the percentage figure tells you. There's different ways of making tint, the more expensive versions use metallic film in the tint rather than dye to make it darker.

AFAIK, Midnight Express is their cheapest tint, however it comes out looking blacker than other types of tint of the same percentage, and certainly won't turn purple or bubble if it's installed properly.

Doesn't Tint-Professor or Tint-A-Car do it for about $180 or something? Or was that just a winter special or something?

Could even be for a lighter tint, I'm not sure though.

Make sure to get some pics, I'm looking into tinting my windows soon, but don't know how dark to go.

Tint-a-car are expensive, with tint professor I talked the sales guy down from $280 to $220 last year and that was 35% on sides and 15% on the rear window. Tint-a-car were non-negotiable and wanted like $330!

The tint film is the same price no matter what darkness it is, so they *should* charge you the same no matter what the darkness is.

Tint-A-Car have a (very expensive) patented tool that cuts the tint right against the edge of the window, the only other place I have seen with a similar tool is Scorpion Window Tinting in SA. Every other window tint job I've seen have a 1cm or so gap between the edge of the glass and the start of the tint. Some places don't pull the door trims off to fit the tint, and use cheaper glue which can bubble after a while.

Mickus had his windows tinted, I think 15% on sides and Limo tint on the rear for around $200 I think, actually it could of been cheaper but thats because he knows the guy. Its come out really good. The back window is impossible to see in, must be very close to 0%!

Damn didn't realise people had gotten it so cheap, i'm already booked for Wednesday. Ah well, i'm happy to pay more to make sure they do a good job of it this time, hopefully clean up the look of the car a bit.

Has anyone else gone through Tint-a-car?

Thanks for the replies guys.

I got my EL done for just on $180 iirc (4yrs ago and it still looks as good as the day it went in). Your cost is highwer than most brwney as the quote includes removal of old tint which is a pita job.

The previous owner fitted some cheap tint to my car and i had nothing but dramas - bubbling, corrugation, delamination etc. For $400 I had Tint-a-car replace it with F1 tint (35%) and i havn't had any issues in almost 3 years. If i ever do have any issues i simply take it back and have them fix it thanks to the 25 year warranty.

Unfortunately, when it comes to tints you get what you pay for.

i got mine done at complete windscreens (adelaide). they are australian owned which is something i look for, life time warranty and the tint only cost $240. the front door windows are 35% which is darkest legal and the "rear three" are 20% which is fair bit darker. one thing though, because the parcel shelf was rammed against the window they couldnt get in proper and resulted in imperfections, but they were more than happy for me to bring it back down minus the parcel shelf and speakers so they could re-do it free of charge.

This isn't true. In SA, the side windows in front of the driver, at least 70% of light must get through. So yes, virtually every car with tinted windows is defectable, the shop I had mine done at said he has never done a legal tinting job.

Still no photo's from me yet. But I've just noticed a new thread called "AUIII" in "AU Workshop Builds" forum. There's a photo towards the end showing off Midnight Express.
Looks nice too.

RACV membership could help with tint a car. Free removal of bubbled/unroadworthy film when you get formula 1 film.

70%? thats gay as! Heaps of cops have seen mine and no one cares. I sat in a carpark next to one doing paper work in his car just today for 20mins while my m8 got his licence, not to mention the rego sticker being in the rear quarter window because i didnt realise that it would be near impossible to see!!!

$300 sounds pretty fair, especially if that includes stripping of the old tint too.

Tint-a-car here quoted me $325 to do sides and rear in an EB using Midnight Express.
Took the XR8 out there and he quoted the same price but using the Bolle film (usually a coupla hundred dearer) and he'd redo the sunroof and a custom mirrored-tint inlay in the rear window at no extra cost all because he likes the car (gotta love ford nuts lol).

Absolutely true mate. I had a car done by Premier window tinting, and within 12 months it had turned purple, and no I didn't use any cleaning products, only water!

Went back to them, and they straight out told me they wouldn't help. They had just bought that particular franchise and said they were not responsible for the old owners mistakes!!

Tint A car have a great rep, and I've never come across bad work from them.
