Default What is it with Camry drivers?

I know its bad to stereotype - and some probably drive them as fleet cars so don't get a choice - but some of the most tuned-out road behaviour I've ever seen seems to be from people driving Camrys.

Today I came to a lane merge. I was on the left behind another car. Everyone was crawling along at about 15k. There was a large gap with a Camry some distance behind moving slowly, so I signalled right and started moving into the RH lane. I also left space out of courtesy for the guy in front of me to merge. Next thing I know I become aware of the presence of a car on my right on the wrong side of the road still moving slowly in the same direction.

'twas the Camry still proceeding slowly in a forward direction but alongside me and facing oncoming traffic. I moved back left so he didn't get taken out by a semi or something. And off he went as though he was still moving along on the Altona production line.

Do Toyota dealers get issued with some sort of IQ test that they have to give to potential buyers - like if you get higher than a certain score you can't buy one? Or do they slip a drug into the coffee in the showroom to wipe out their perceptive faculties so they can't resist buying one? Strange.

Thats idiotic on behalf of the Camry driver. I'd be tempted to just keep in my lane and leave him in the opposing lane. He was stupid enough to go there, he can stay there. He won't crash or anything. I'm sure there would have been space on the side of the road for him to ditch into.

It sounds harsh but these people need to learn to give way to people who need to merge.

its more that they realise it isnt a good car so who cares what happens to them..... lols nah just joking

i think its more that people in general are stupid (no offense people) but theres always more than one person and becoming an ever increasing thing... well in nicer terms its not that your dumb its that theres no common sense or awareness hoping in a car is just that, some wouldnt know how to use a mirror, NEVER seen an indicator stalk, wouldnt know how to drive in general....its not the car they are in its the person behind the wheel clueless

Don't worry about it being a stereotype mate it's true I've never seen a good camry driver and they are EVERYWHERE god I hate 'em always driven by people who only see cars as a tool to get from A to B and stupid enough to buy into the "if you don't speed nothing will happen to you" dangerous mentality of our governments.

It's mainly ford drivers who can't drive.

I don't like to stereotype and heard of the Camry thing. Then I noticed how true it was. I keep my eye out for "them" now.
Many are older (retired) drivers. One I experienced going over a twisty road with an 80 km/h limit was doing like 20 going into the bends and 110 down the straight sections. At 20 km/h he was crossing the centre line and driving partly on the other side of the road. Many of these are blind corners but certainly don't require 20 km/h and the full road to negotiate.

.. or a delivery van or small "box" truck.

All the Camry's out my way are 80km/h speed restricted. They do 80km/h in 100km/h zones .. and they do 80km/h in 60km/h zones. I make a point of passing any Camry doing 80km/h in 100km/h zone evern if I'm going to turn off a short distance up the road .. just so they get the idea that they are truely annoying ..

Edit: Oh .. I've also found that modern Nissan Pulsars are the "poor mans" Camry ..

I used to own an XC GXL 351C/FMX, and I can't say I understand how you go from that to a Pulsar???

LOL, I bought the N13 for the wife, and i reckon IT uses too much fuel (12.5L/100Km 3sp auto 4000rpm at 120!). I don't even bother working it out for the GXL, with the hi-stall, 750 Holley etc. It's a sometimes car.
Actually the N13 doesn't go too bad for what it is: has auto, air,
steer 4 wheel discs and is a better car then the 2005 model we hired. The sound the sunvisors made when they hit the headlining still haunts me......

I have my opinions on Camry drivers, as well as those people who actually buy them.

Many problems...too fast, too slow, don't give way, cut into my lane at turns (don't hold their line!) etc.
Although I will admit, many other makers do it. There are just so many Camrys on the road.

Well it must be boring driving a fridge on wheels! :P

I have also found they like to hog the right lane even though it says "Keep Left" yet I'm more likely to get pulled over for 10km/h over the limit- figure that one!

They generally drive under the speed limit. Soon taken care of when no oncoming traffic is around although impossible in peak hour which sucks.

I get plenty of honks and flashing lights. IT'S A LEGAL MOVE! Broken single line is fair game.

Diplomats are the worst and Canberra is full of them. Whether it is a Camry or BMW they just can't drive!

I think Australian Camry drivers come to NZ and drive Holdens, every bastard in a Holden drives like a tool. Like if there is a gap in the right lane on a 2 lane motorway and the gap is in front of a holden and you indicate to move it, they speed up and tailgate you then give you some ****ed off gesture then you move back left, lost count of how many times its happened to me, probably about 3 times alone when I went to Taupo for the A1.

Slight exateration and generalization was included for fun.

yeah we've got quite a few camry drivers around us, who i don't think actually know they're doing something wrong, which is really scary. they just look dead ahead, sit 20kphs under the limit and hope for the best. they are also the drivers who think that as soon as they indicate they can change lanes, regardless of whether there's a car there or not.
but its the drivers that purposely cut merge that drive me crazy. the ones that know the lanes are merging, are behind you, come straight up next to you, and expect you to wait for them to pass before you merge. argh! common courtesy my a**!
and for this you can always count on work vans/utes and 4WDs, or just anyone who thinks they're above other drivers on the road when they're clearly not...holden drivers ;p

Its even worse when you are following them onto a freeway and they decide to try and merge at 50 kmh :(. That scares the daylights out of me, the other day I saw one stopped at the end of the on ramp waiting for a gap (luckily I was already on the freeway so just went straight past) Imagine heading down an on ramp trying to merge and seeing a car stopped at the end waiting for a gap in traffic (traffic was free flowing we were all doing about 100 k's)

I had a Corolla driver beep me today.

Crawling along, I was in the left lane which was ending so I indicated right to merge into an empty space with enough room for a car and a half. As soon as I start to move, female Corolla driver accelerates to fill the space and gets on the blower... TWICE! Like I'm supposed to apologize and put my car up on the curb because I got into empty space in front of her. :

Bugger that I thought... I moved into the space and gave her a nice wave.

yes I hate that too, especially when you have just kicked down a gear to match 110 and ur looking in your blindspot for a gap and you realise the person in front of you is crawling along without a care in the world

If you really want to end up in the loony bin.....
I will take you out for a day in the truck.... then you will really know what BAD driving is, I am half tempted to install a camera and let it roll all day and edit out all the boring parts and put a 1 week compilation of "stupid drivers" on here for you all to laugh and be horrified by. Come to think of it... i dont think they make comapct disc's with enough space on them to fit it all in!

I also vote Camry drivers to be highly ranked amongst the brain dead.

Had that happen to me a couple of times. I had to take evasive action and undertook them on the left side using the emergency lane. It was either that.... or an impact at 100kmh.

You just don't expect people (in this case... idiots) to stop at the end of a merging lane!

Camry drivers, do not pass the iq test so they must be brain dead, they drive to slow or hog the right lane, the car looks like a fridge on wheels, and that why you never see a good camry driver and now puts them as highly ranked in the brain dead catagory.

Makes you wonder how and why this car sells so well.?

No probs with them in the outback, they are meant to be there, afterall, isnt that what they were invented for?
I get sick of the ones used properly on the streets, the ones that slow down for speed humps, the 50+ puss boxes parked in a row outside schools blocking both lanes of traffic, the ones that dont see any cars on the road unless they are the same height as them, the ones that go around a bend starting at the right lane, and then finishing off the bend well into the left lane running me off the road and then giving me a dumbfounded look!! the ones where they cant see anything behind them even with reversing camera's.....I can keep going, there just a few of the run ins ive had with these outback vehicles..but in saying that, it isnt the cars fault, its the drivers that are the problem.
