as a few guys on here know ,i recently reco'd a bottom end for our i6. nothing special just a rering and new bearings and a timing chain kit from repco .
well anyhow i had the head off it a couple a weeks ago to get some new giudes and get the valves checked.when i noticed the the guide that sits on the chain tensioner looked like bits were flaking off it .i had a closer look and the guide had actualy worn through the black plastic looking stuff and was scrubbing on the metal under it.after i pulled it out you can see where the guide has actualy got that hot that the black material has blistered and started to peel off on the back of the guide. i don't know what would have caused this ,the chain tensioner was in the correct position when i pulled the head off.the only reason i can think off is that i ran it on 20w/50 to break it in .maybe to much oil pressure for the chain tensioner??? her's some pics , this guide has only done 14,000 k's.the other 2 guides had hardly worn at all. http://img152.imageshack.us:80/img15...2007046il4.jpg http://img264.imageshack.us:80/img26...2007047hm4.jpg http://img243.imageshack.us:80/img24...2007048om2.jpg http://img201.imageshack.us:80/img20...2007049ez9.jpg
