I know this has been covered before, but I couldn't find it during my search. How do we go about making the auto look like a manual (inside the car). I just want to rice up the inside a bit, and I'm sick of looking at the horrid looking auto shifter and surround.
If someone knows where the topic is that covered this already, I would appreciate it. Thank you

Making a Auto look like a Manual? Hmmmm. I thought shifting stock Autos, like a Manual was bad enough.
Personally I think it would look stupid, as there would still be no clutch pedal. Each to their own I guess. |

Buy a B&M shifter: http://www.bmracing.com/index.php?id...cat=2&subcat=1
Or maybe a Lokar: http://www.lokar.com/interior_pages/shifters_knobs.htm Or a Hurst: http://www.hurst-shifters.com/catalo.../Pro-Matic.pdf |

Look at getting one of those leather Autotecknica manual gear lever boots from Autobarn, pop the surround up and try to get it to stay there. Making a square bracket from coat hanger can help

If you really want to hide it a bit, swap your centre console for a manual one, fit a different gearknob and a gear shift boot as has been said.

some years ago my Top Loader self destructed (still trying to work out how that happened ):
any way in a hurry and all I could get was a C4 so I just connected my 4 speed shift to the auto. It did look manual.

Stick a towel over the shifter. then you won't have to look at it

Lol
I might buy a black towel so it matches the interior, then give that a go LOL But seriously, yes, something like the new ford shifter.. I might give it a go just by getting a black leather gear boot and fitting it in. Will any of the aftermarket auto shifter knobs work with the AU2 or do I have to find one with the button on the side?

Just remember you MUST have the PRND321 indicator or they will fail roadworthy inspection.

The interior has been changed a little since these shots were taken. But maybe a combo of MotherNature's shifter and my T5 surround would give you the look you're after? Ignore the colour of my gear boot, it's getting replaced with a black one... |

I reckon the BA auto shifter looks like a manual shift knob, and as luck would have it, I just fitted one to my EL, and it is fully functioning with all detentes working as they should.

i used to have a custom shift knob i made for my auto XF ute to match the wood sports steering wheel i had..
i got a standard run of the mill wood manual shifterand drilled a hole up through the center of it. then i lengthened the detent pushrod, so it was almost out the top of the hole in the shifter....to which i araldited a bullet shaped chrome bike valvecap to the top of... looked a million bucks....would love to do another soon for my Fairlane also, Lisa, thats Dave......ben was GhiaEB and hasnt been around for a while now... |

Told you it was Sunday Morning & Yes I am blonde atm :P The Carbon fibre one I have now was our second conversion ....... We actually got a manual one from Auto1 IIRC and as Wayne did drilled the hole in the top ..... I loved it as it was blue but alas it was the wrong blue and looked dickky when we put in the cobalt inserts ;) |
